Guillaume’s top is not yet finalized and I guess there should be some little simple & nice addition to his costume but if you already like this first version, you’ll love the next one in Japan. We can rely on Gaby and Guillaume to bring a lot of attention to their costumes.

In any case, as you pointed out, showing off their beautiful movement is exactly the goal hence whatever they wear is expected to be sober, elegant and sleek design.

Did he mean the lifts for this season or as a goal for this quad? I'm not expecting the work with acrobats to pay off this soon since they started training so late, but would love to to see it.

I agree....I totally love both P/C, T/S and at least a handfull of others. If you really like one team it does not mean you have to hate their competition.

Comparison of the maximum possible scores between last and actual seasons given the new ID scales of values. Several couples should therefore pass the 200 pts threshold this season.

Looking at Moonlight Sonata at Worlds and looking at the new system (with which I've looked at a lot of freedances from the past), I'd pretty much give them a 5 Goe on every element. The only ones that are even slightly borderline are the choreo lift and the two step sequences. The double features of being smooth and effortless, being musically rhythmic, and creative and innovative, gives them six features for all elements. All other elements get two more features for the entrance and the exit, which gives them eight features, which is plus 5 GOE for everything but the steps and the choreo spin. Then, they get an additional feature on virtually everything for nuance. They get speed on all elements for which it can apply. Plus they get sureness of steps for twizzles and step sequences, and two extra features for the run of the edge out of the first two twizzles. They also get an extra feature for variety of holds in both step sequences. There's also a feature of unison and oneness, which can be applied to a lot of elements.

Basically, there is an increase of score of 12 points for the FD (Alain, what's your source for the scores for the FD?, I've seen last year's one as having been 125.56 https://twitter.com/_David_Molina/status/1019514822256414722 I think that one is correct.........EDIT: 124.7 is in fact last year's max FD score)

But part of that is a choreo element (and approximately 7.5 points of the increased score is from the additional choreo element plus the increase in weighting for all choreo elements). The rest is dribs and drabs spread across all other elements.

Basically, unless the judges are looking to be picky (and the easiest way to do that is claim there is an unaesthetic position, and make sure the max got possible is plus 3; and/ or to claim a move is not innovative or creative and therefore deny an element two features, and hope to take it under the 8 features needed for a plus 5 GOE), if they perform as they did last year they should be pretty much maxing out again (and that's without them having taken on board the changes to the system and reacted appropriately).

Of course they can make a mistake...... But except for Finlandia, when Guillaume got distracted because of a missed turn and fell, they pretty much had a perfect season 2017-2018, so let's hope for the same (minus the fall)

I also think that's why this season it is really important to take the time out to get both programmes right. The team's that spend the most time making sure they hit the creative and innovative features most effectively will set the standard against which all creativity and innovation is measured- those are v subjective criteria......

I certainly don't think any team at his point should be performing the same lift with either the very standard transitions in and out or the same transitions in both the short and the free, as other teams are doing (that's just throwing away a double feature, surely)

The new GOE system definitely favours a team like P and C.
Hopefully we see some movement in other teams who IMO deserve higher GOE’s on elements

125.56 is the max free dance score for juniors but still, you’re right Icetigger! I put the wrong max score for last season FD! 127.4 instead of 124.7 (correct one - just updated the table accordingly).

God, I've been misreading that table for a while now...... I knew that the old score for the FD was about 125ish though, so we're all correct now..... Team effort!!!

Because P and C perform their elements very well. They are fluid and generally effortless.

But I also think Chock and Bates should get maximum GOE’s on their lifts.

The Shibs too should get very good GOE’s on pretty much everything.

I also think Piper and Paul perform their lifts very well just as a few examples.
 
I’m not saying that these teams deserve higher then P and C necessarily, but they IMO perform certain element S with very high quality that IMO is at least equal to P and C

The Shibs are off this season but I understand your comment is more general and applies to both current & next seasons.

When the ISU released the new ID scales of values with GOEs from -5 to +5, they also came with a (quite long) list of criteria to help the judges discriminate between 11 different grades of execution (as Icetigger pointed out). It was also said that +5 GOE would not be awarded like hotcakes but only for the very best performances, taking into account new criteria such as the level of creativity/innovation (which is a bit subjective) and so on. In other words, "performing lifts very well" may not be enough to get GOE +5. I am not sure all judges will apply the rules exactly the same way and I expect discrepancies this season, at least until GPF, the time for convergence and synchronisation.

Now PCS top scores (eg 9.50 to 10.00) seem - so far - to be granted quite generously (especially at the Nepela Trophy!), which is not good news as G&G can really make the difference with their direct competitors with their components score. I would expect both +5 GOE and PCS from 9.50 to 10.00 to be awarded with the same level of requirements.
