So are you guys all excited about this pairing? And I wonder if they will compete for great Britain, which I hope they do as I feel like she’s been through the ringer. Although if they stay with Spain, there’s no competition. I guess for Germany as well.

I guess they have their free dance music picked out but still searching for the rhythm dance.

when exactly did he break up with Katharina?

I like Olivia so much. I hope this goes well, will they qualify for two GP assignments?

Sweets, this had been discussed in the Dance Hall thread over in the Trash Can. We're all waiting on pins and needles (and have been since January) to hear what country they'll be representing.

Oh really? What do you want from me?… LMAO

I mean you’re not sending any faxes, and this certainly would’ve qualified

maybe this deserves it’s own thread, since I rarely go into the dance thread

Wouldn't need a fax if you checked the dance thread every other week or so...

Boy, the TSL video I linked sure had some juicy infos if you ask me. On a sidenote, I feel like Dave never gives Jenny a chance to talk.

I’m so glad to know that she’s coming back. I looked at Karen’s list for Grand Prix possible assignments. I need to go back and check if she included Olivia and Tim for dance.

I did. Because, unlike you, I check the Dance Hall thread regularly, plus I follow both Tim & Olivia on IG.

Seriously... The TSL interview was the 2nd one Olivia gave in the last week - she did one with This Week in Skating a few days before TSL and that's where she actually confirmed the partnership with Tim as well as the break-up with Adrian.

what the heck then don’t come into this thread. I have other things going on, besides knowing the ins and outs of the top 200 threads here.

Spain have a new partnership Sofía Val and Asaf Kazimovwho train under Sara Hurtado and Krill Khaliavin in Spain so that gives some healthy competition and hopefully, if either or both teams are capable of top ten placements in the coming seasons there will be no re run of previous Spanish ice dance drama which was heartbreaking

Germany has lots of competition but with that will come lots of heartbreak. There is a team behind Janse van Rensburg/Steffan, Matthaei/Lieber who will lose their European spot this year if Smart and Dieck step in.Also Janse van Rensburg/Steffan may lose the one spot Germany has for worlds this year to them. Next year there is a really talented junior team coming into seniors Grimm/Savitskiy who have a good chance of winning junior worlds so will be fighting for world european and grand prix spots. If Smart and Dieck skate for Germany then undoubtedly other very talented teams will miss out. Plus it seems common knowledge that funding in Germany is slim so there may be better funding for all the teams including Smart and Dieck if they skate for Spain.

I know competition is good and they can skate for whoever they chose but I am just a fan with a soft spot for underdogs.

Copying over from the Dance Hall thread (April 22) :):
Olivia Smart was the guest on this week's This Week in Skating podcast and she gave the first public confirmation of the partnership with Tim Dieck. They haven't made the formal announcement yet because they're still figuring out the country logistics/waiting on paperwork/releases.
Starting after the 54 minute mark:

Spain has requested he be released. They made the better financial offer. The German Fed is looking into the request.

Well, hopefully it won't take long for them to process the release. Goodness knows, they dragged out Asaf Kazimov's until the very last possible minute, per the ice-dance.com article about Val/Kazimov (didn't get it until the week before the Challenge Cup entry deadline). It would be a shame if Olivia & Tim miss out on a guaranteed GP assignment because they don't have his release.
I like the wording of the German Fed, Spain has made the best offer. German Fed offers to take 10 percent of the prize money you earn and give you nothing. Could it get any worse?
Plus, according to the recent Hocke/Kunkel interview, the German Fed now will not pay for a coach to accompany a skater/team to their GP assignments, and they won't pay for any expenses involved with competing at a Challenger event. I'd be looking to represent pretty much any other country except maybe Hungary if I was a German skater at this point.

Yeah, the German fed just sucks.
IIRC they are hiring event managers and PR-people now. what for? And what are they going to work for? Air to breathe and a handshake?
if only money grew on trees :D maybe a certain Olympic Team disqualification happens soon and the German Fed will get some more money from the German Government. But they are paying for millions of refugees so they probably dont care about funding sports anymore

Dieck got more funding (+ free ice time at his rink etc) during his German Team days so they could drag it on ... or Daddy Dieck will pull some strings and it will be fast :p
