NBCSN Network to Return

According to this Variety article, NBC plans to reintroduce NBCSN (NBC Sports Network): https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/nbc-revives-sports-network-youtube-tv-launch-peacock-1236580775/. I have no idea what impact it will have on figure skating coverage for Nationals and afterward.
Well, quoting the very last paragraph of the article...

Some events, however, will remain solely on Peacock, including a special NFL game and hours of Olympics coverage.

I would guess this means that none of the Olympic sports like figure skating, gymnastics, alpine skiing or swimming will be affected at this time.

wow - I can't figure out what in heck they are talking about. Very confusing. Is NBC having a fight with itself over sports coverage? And YouTube is pay-tv?

My guess is that NBC just now realized that they can’t fulfill their Oly contract without a few more non streaming outlets. With the rebranding of MSNBC, they may not be able to just grab those channels so bringing back NBCSN may give them quick reentry on cable.

So, I just checked and it is available on xfinity as part of my cable package. For anyone with xfinity, you should have it unless you have the lowest level/most basic xfinity package.

So will Peacock still stream figure skating?

That's the confusing part. I paid for an annual Peacock subscription because I expected to be able to watch Nationals and the Olympics. I will be very ticked off if I can't.

The release says:
“NBCSN is a win across the board – driving value for fans and distributors who prefer an aggregated experience, league and conference partners seeking broad reach, and advertisers targeting engaged sports audiences – while also creating a new monetization path for some of our most premium programming and supporting NBCU’s commitment to serving viewers wherever they watch, whether on Peacock, pay-tv, or both.”

So, hopefully this means that, if you don't have pay TV and you subscribe to Peacock, you still will be able to watch all the figure skating. But, I don't think it's entirely clear.

If you’re subscribing just for events in January and February, wouldn’t it make more sense to pay for those two months and then cancel after as opposed to an annual subscription?

I’m thinking NBCSN won’t show the entire events like Peacock does. It might just be the new place they put the televised coverage - the shows they usually put on channels like E!

So will Peacock still stream figure skating?
Well, the press release is dated Nov 17th and both Finlandia Trophy and the GPF were on Peacock, so I would expect they'll still have figure skating (and most Olympic sports) on Peacock.

I didn't subscribe just for January and February. I also subscribed for the Grand Prix series, and then I wanted to include both Nationals and the Olympics as well as Worlds. Financially, it made sense to get the annual subscription, but that wouldn't be the case if it turned out that Peacock is going to have only the Grand Prix. But, I'm hopeful that Nationals, the Olympics, and Worlds will be on Peacock.

We don't pay for the ISU live feed though. I mean NBC could stream them via a method that requires pay but maybe they won't.
It says YouTube TV specifically. Which is not a free service. The ISU and what they publish is on YouTube itself.

Anyways, it does sound like NBCSN or whatever comes of it will just be integrated into Peacock, and then it’s just listing alternate methods of seeing the coverage.

NBCSN will feature live games across major sports, giving pay-TV customers a way to enjoy much of NBCUniversal’s extensive sports portfolio that also streams on Peacock.

This is the exact quote from the press release:

NBCSN will be available exclusively through participating pay-tv distributors, launching first for all YouTube TV subscribers (1) and soon on Xfinity (2), with other distributors to be announced at a later date (3). NBCSN will feature live games across major sports, giving pay-TV customers a way to enjoy much of NBCUniversal’s extensive sports portfolio (4) that also streams on Peacock (5).

I'm not sure when everyone seemed to lose their reading comprehension skills around here but...

1) It is available on YouTube TV as of Nov 17th.
2) It was slated to be added to Xfinity "soon" after the Nov 17th date. I have confirmed that NBCSN is currently available on Xfinity. This, of course, depends on your own Xfinity package but when I checked earlier today, it is part of the channel package for all but the lowest tier.
3) Other cable carriers/distributors - you probably need to check with your own to see if it has been added or will be sometime in the near future.
4) It is another way for pay-TV customers to gain access to NBC's sports lineup.
5) Everything is still being streamed on Peacock.

Which is what I said, is it not? But also I wouldn’t expect much less of a response.

Sigh. You know, at this rate, I should have known you'd go back and edit your post after I made mine to include one sentence from the press release about the Peacock streaming just to get in a dig at me. Get over yourself.

I missed that it was YouTube TV. Mostly because I like to pretend that service doesn’t exist.

Karen, if I edit after 5 minutes it says so very clearly at the bottom of the post. I edited mine immediately. You are here on FSU enough to know that. There’s a 29 minute difference in posts. That’s some math. ‘Get OvER yOurSelF’.

I know what you posted because I was going to quote your post to agree with you. I decided to remove your quote and just post the full paragraph from the press release for clarity's sake. I don't make baseless accusations and I certainly didn't make my post to provoke you or come at you. I fail to see why you felt like you needed to make the comment you did.

Karen, I am quite sure no one wants to keep reading (look, reading comprehension that everyone has lost) this saga about how I magically edited my post a half hour after I initially wrote it just to spite your reply. Look at me apparently hacking FSU’s editing policy just to make you look bad!

Anyways, moving on to the concept that we will still see the Olympics on Peacock..
