Love, Balls and Courting: Tennis V

Vamos Carlos, a convincing win.

Sabalenka's win really felt like it was due to her keeping emotionally cool, even when down at times.

Well, I have to say that Carlos and Jannik have truly distanced themselves from the rest of the ATP, after facing off in the final of 3 out of 4 Grand Slams this year. I like both of them, but I would enjoy seeing the other players start to step it up a little next year (yes, AZ, I'm looking at you in particular).

Reminds me of the old days w/ Connors/Borg, Borg/McEnroe, Lendl McEnroe, Lendl/Connors! The comp. is a lot better, but Alcaraz & Sinner are head & shoulders above the rest! The eltes are flanked by an aging Djokovic & Zverev, then low level talent of Fritz, Shelton, FAA, Draper, Musetti, & De Minaur! These players haven't even made a major final! Sincaraz have won the last 8 Majors; 9 w/ the YEC from 2024 in Nov.!  :D :wall:

Amazing result in Shanghai: Vacherot d. Djokovic, Rinderknech d. Medvedev and the two cousins meet in a Masters 1000 final. Vacherot jumps from 204 to at least 58 in the live rankings. He was an alternate for qualifying at the beginning of the tournament 😱

Did anyone just watch Vicky Mboko and Clara Tauson? Brilliant match. Very happy to see Vicky in the 4th round in her AO debut!!

Also further to my previous post: Vacherot seeded 30th and still alive.

I know the Olympics are almost upon us, but I can't believe no one's mentioned the stunning men's semis 5 setters in Melbourne.

Were you watching? I kept waking up and checking my phone last night, lol. I guess I am still recovering from the shock of my fave, Lorenzo, retiring after being 2 sets up on Djokovic. Novak has been extraordinarily fortunate this tournament, but it does seem like he played very, very well against Jannik.

Nole certainly was fortunate, but inevitably played well enuf to upset Sinner who wasn't hampered in the least! Sinner played quite well himself! Novak just hung in there, stayed close, & finally went into "lockdown-mode" forcing Jannik to go for more, creating errors! The overall stats favored Sinner who won 12 more pts. overall, had 18 service break pts. losing 16 of them, served more effectively, hit more winners, & had fewer UFE's! The result made no sense outside of Djokovic just repressenting himself as the Tennis GOAT! :D:40beers::cool:

I recorded the matches to watch them. I saw the tail end of the Alcaraz battle this morning when I woke up before work.

Sinner had a lot of opportunities to win in the 5th set, but couldn't convert his break chances when he had the opportunity. We'll see if old man Novak has any gas left in the tank, but with a walkover and the injury of Musetti he's had more than his share of good luck.

Carlos has got to be the favorite to win, but I'd have said that about Jannick as well.
