JSF Championships (Japanese Nationals) 2024 (Dec.19-22, 2024)

Kuneshita/Roueche - their costumes made me think possibly a "La La Land" FD and I was not wrong. They're quite slow, which kind of works in this first section, but not so much when the tempo picks up for "Someone In The Crowd" and it really doesn't work when it changes to "Another Day Of Sun". Wow... That was... Well, it's nice that there are CTES mins for 4CCs.

Sasaki/Ikeda are skating to the Keira Knightley "Pride & Prejudice" soundtrack. She's in soft pink and her dress is just about the furthest thing from Regency fashion as one can find. Now it's switched to something else... So, maybe this isn't a "P&P" program, oh wait - another music change, back to "P&P" soundtrack. Basically, this is contemporary, lyrical dance. I won't go so far as to call it "lyrical snot", but it's just rather pleasant. Their skating was fine, but... I was more interested in IDing the music than watching them, so yeah...

Tanaka/Nishiyama - "Für Elise" - IAM really dug deep with this team, didn't they? Conditioning-wise, she's struggling to keep up with the music and pacing toward the end of the program, which is understandable given they started the season late due to her back injury. It's not a bad program, just quite unmemorable.

Utana/Morita - I want to like this program but I didn't really feel any of the urgency that comes from watching or listening to "Romeo & Juliet". Kind of fell flat to me. Should still be enough to win given their RD lead.

Okay, here we go!

Yunoki/Taylor - decent 2tw; good SBS 3t; SBS 2a+1a+1a; ooooof - lift fail; first throw - looked like she opened out and only did a double but the TES tracker says it was a triple... second lift much smoother; second throw was definitely just a double; last lift also decent though a tad bit labored for him. Program was to "The Bird Man" soundtrack - nothing astounding or groundbreaking here. They're not bad and have some potential, especially if they stick with it through the next quad since MiuKih will certainly be done after Milano-Cortina.

Pirate stream seems to be struggling with Shimizu/Honda - not sure how much of their program we are going to see. Hopefully the stream will get itself figured out before the last two teams.

Pirate stream back - in the middle of Shimizu/Honda's program - apparently there was a music issue too - I'm guessing perhaps the organizers had their Jr FS edit instead of the Sr FS edit?

Nagaoka/Moriguchi - still only a 2tw; SBS 3+2+2 good; nice, fast lift across the ice; hand down for her on the SBS solo 3; not really loving the transitions into the first throw - doubled and two-foot landing; another solid lift; good throw triple and final lift. There were some good parts of this program and some other not-so-good parts. They need to upgrade to a 3tw if they want to go much further than finishing in the mid-teens at Worlds.

Miura/Kihara - good 3tw; SBS 3t - she doubled and he fell out of the landing; solid lift; throw 3 - looked smooth; good SBS 3s but no combo; another nice lift; second throw looked good too; and their signature lift to end, also good. Well, apart from the opening SBS jump combo being a mess, this was a decent effort for them. Boy, do they look gassed at the end. Same thing we've seen all season - I really have to wonder how much tape and PT is holding them both together right now, lol.

Ryuichi really looked tired at the end of their program. I think the near fall in the K/C was due to his not having his skate guard on but was he a bit off-balance even after that? Hope he's OK ... makes me remember his situation after the Worlds fs ... hyperventilating/low blood sugar, etc.
