It's that time again! Annual post-Canadians split thread (pairs and dance)

We may get a few surprises at the beginning of the season. There are many juniors I don't know with whom they will be...

I guess we will see in Junior Pairs
Evelyn Walsh / Trennt Michaud EO
Lori-Ann Matte / Thierry Ferland QC
Olivia Boys-Eddy / Mackenzie Boys-Eddy CO
Chloé Choinard / Mathieu Ostiguy
Chloé Panetta / Steven Lapointe QC
Alison Schumacher / Zachary Daleman
??? / Pier-Alexandre Hudon NS

But there is also some girls that were on IPS and I'm sure some of them found matches.
Justine Brasseur /
Tessa Jones / BC
Jamie Knoblauch /
Hannah Dawson /

Also, Keara Harney and Takara Dei, but I'm not sure if they will move in Jr or stay in Novice. May depends on the partner they found

Finally, I guess the boys that were/are on IPS will have no problems to find partners. So we should also get:
Christian Reekie EO
Matthew den Boer BC/YK
Josh Venema AB
Zachary Freedman
Kurtis Schreiber AB

and maybe Jeremy Burns QC who was in pre-novice last year but split. If he's back, he will need to be in Novice, or maybe Junior.

So no news in there, just a résumé of the couples we should expect... and a lot of interrogation. The good news: there should be plenty of junior pairs this year. Probably between 10 and 15 at the Challenge and the National.

If you got insights, let us know!

Thank-you for putting this together

Allison Eby could also reappear.

Is that a hint or a guess?

I also tried to "theorically" match the possible partnerships base on their locations, but those are pure "fiction": Takara Dei with Kurtis Schreiber? Keara Harney with Christian Reekie?

Too much time to think before the start of the season could lead to crazy things...

Still 2,5 months before Minto Summer Skate!

Wasn't there at western Ontario pair girl from Brantford who had paired up with the boy from Ilderton. I remember reading an article about it. I can't remember their names

You may be talking about Andrew/Knott London/London WO, whom will probably stayed in Novice pairs or L Hensen/N Lickers, Ilderton SC/Ilder,WO, who were in Novice dance. There is also Bertt Varley from Ilderton who used to be in pairs in 2014... but didn't heard about new partnership.

@mackiecat may be recalling this article that was posted in this thread back on Jan. 31:
Varley is reportedly skating with Mary Orr, but they haven't competed yet.

[Article dated November 2, 2016]: http://www.brantnews.com/news-story/6943129-an-athlete-for-all-seasons/
ETA that this March 30, 2017 article says Mary Orr is focusing on competitive running for now: http://www.brantfordexpositor.ca/2017/03/30/athlete-knows-how-to-make-it-count
Meanwhile, Mary is suffering from an all-too-common problem in the competitive skating world: a lack of qualified male partners.
When Phelan retired, she tried a new partner but he decided to move out of the arduous training for world-level skating.
"Then I picked up running more and started training with (Brant running coach) RICK MANNEN. We've been working on speed and I won a few races. So I'm partnerless, still running and looking at a few other paths for skating, like tour shows or cruise ships."

George Waddell, 18, who placed 7th in Junior Dance at Canadians with Sabrina Bédard, is listed on IPS and his profile states he wants to represent GBR - reply from the Canadian Dance thread:
Waddell has citizenship from the UK, Canada and the US, so he has a lot of options
Newly listed on IPS is Simon Dazé, 21 (last competed at 2016 Canadians in Junior with Kayla Charky) who lists Dubreuil as his coach.

Split. Senior Dance.
Elysia-Marie Campbell is on IPS for 2 weeks now.

No new about his former partner, Philippe Granger.

Just found on Patinage Québec website the list of the Québec team B (at writing time, other teams (A, C and D) are not available yet).
http://www.patinage.qc.ca/UploadsNew/Equipe_B_2017-2018.pdf

It seems Pier-Alexandre Hudon will be in Junior (pairs) with Gabrielle Lévesque from Nova Scotia.

Pier-Alexandre did one event in pairs last year (Minto) with Rebeka Fournier. He was also in pre-novice pairs in 2014-15 and 2012-13 with different partners. So he got much experience.

Last year, Gabrielle Levesque skated in pairs with Ben Penhaligon in Novice at Minto. Later they did 3 Junior competitions in Great Britain since Ben got British citizenship. Ben is on Ice Partner Search.

4 pairs are listed in Québec Novice but Perreault/Pierro and Forest/Foster will also compete in Novice (even if they are listed in pre-novice). Not sure yet about Audelin-Dubé/Éthier. I also heard Samir Andjorin will be back with a new partner, but not sure if it will be in Novice or Junior.

Also the CQE interim entry list is posted and it looks as if there are 2 new novice teams - Marine Pouliot & Alexandre Simard as well as Veronique Turbide & William St-Louis. Novice pairs is looking to be more robust this year so far. http://www.patinage.qc.ca/UploadsNew/Compétitions 2017-2018/CQE/ParticipantsCQE2017-05-29.pdf

Interesting..Marine Pouliot was skating Juvenile in March with another partner. (she is 12 & is my fav up and coming pair girl..(been watching her since 2015)So she has jumped from juvenile to Novice....She was skating at Rosemere with Yvans Desjardins (Nic Nadeau's coach). They just had a seminar with Shae LYne bourne...I wonder if they are training there or have changed.

I started a new Canadian Pairs 2017/18 season with more détails about the novice pairs.

I'm also happy to see Marine Pouliot joining the Novice pairs group. I'm sure she will have great scores in the program components since she's a really good skater for her age and also offering a high level of artistic performance. Still have to wait to see how she belong with her new Partner. I believe they wlll be a little behind the leaders at the beginning of the season since they are a new pair and she's moving from juvéniles while most of the others pairs were already in prenovice last year. But I believe they have a great potential.

FYI Marine is also an actor and has a lead role in kids show. :cheer2:

That could be a minus timewise but importantly she really performs on the ice and has beautiful lines...I am not sure what her jumping capability is as I have only seen her skate prejuvenile and juvenile and I am no judge of that. I looked up her partner and saw vids of him skating pairs in 2013 where he looked very solid so I am now hopeful of this pair.
Does anyone know what jumps she has? he is skating junior in singles and she has moved from juvenile to prenovice in singles.

Marjorie Lajoie was (is?) represented by the same agency/union as Marine I believe, and also did a kids 'Just for Laughs' style show called Just Kidding, if I'm not mistaken.

At the end of last season Marine was still working on her 2A, no triples yet. But this is the case for most other pairs novice girls. I think the only one in Novice pairs with good 2A is Brooke McIntosh.

Marine's partner, Alexandre Simard won the Novice Québec section A last year, against some other pairs boys, like Bryan Pierro, Loucas Éthier, Nathaniel Foster, William St‐Louis, and Samir Andjorin. More than half of the novice single boys are now also doing Novice pairs! As Barbarafan mentionned, he also did one year of pre-novice pairs in 2013-14.

could be...I only know about Marine because I clicked on her routine in Daily Motion 2 yrs ago & was so impressed by her program&performance that I googled her to see who her coach was & found out she acted and also did pairs for Yvan Desjardins- Nic Nadeau's coach.

Here's the link (just bumped it up): https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/in...irs-2017-2018-season-news-and-updates.101358/

Are juniors Ellie Fisher and Simon Pierre Mallet Paquette a new team?
Yes. They are listed in Junior Dance for the Quebec Summer Championships (as of June 5): http://www.patinage.qc.ca/UploadsNew/Compétitions 2017-2018/CQE/ParticipantsCQE2017-06-05.pdf

Would someone like to start a 2017-18 Canadian Ice Dance news and updates thread?

He's skating with Sasha Fear, I think splitting time between Montreal & London, and they are planning on representing GB. (Sasha's former partner Elliot Verburg is skating with Tish Marsh, training with Zueva)

Are Wu & Mirzakhani skating this season? I just realized that I haven't seen them at any of the summer events.
