ISU reveals new branding in line with the vision

I like skating up between 2006-2018.

I'm very sorry, am I still supposed to treat ID with respect. Half the people are awful, and it's a conservative estimate. That wasn't even a joke, even on the other thread someone pointed out ISU does nothing actually useful in these cases?

Plus the photo behind the new logo (on the Insta post that was linked) looks like something from a Vegas show or some Gladiator-type or Ninja-type TV reality series. It's not even a flattering photo of the skaters in the photo. Bad choice.

It's Metelkina/Berulava in their exhibition program costumes, presumably from the Gala at Euros or Worlds. They added a second photo with the new motto later in the day, of a synchro team doing a group lift.

I don't mind the logo change but none of this really matters when they won't address fundamental problems that have otherwise made the programs boring and/or all look the same with about 15 seconds of a choreographic sequence being the only time they show any personality or listening to the music. 🤷‍♂️ and of course, rules like the 'q' and choreographic element scoring be completely based on vibes and start order in dance.

Agreed.

The new logo is nice. From a design standpoint, it's solid if not spectacular.

The motto is terrible. All that's missing is the word "homologate".

This synchro photo is horrible. What misogynist chose this?
I have no idea who is selecting these photos. Today's pic is Kaori surrounded by the WTT gala cast.

And we have the new ISU Mission - "To create a world where everyone can experience & enjoy the thrill of skating."

I'm stupefied. I'm torn between sarcastically wondering if they think they're an all-powerful god who can create new worlds, then I'm annoyed at the pretentious, lofty, and corporate positivity of it, and then I'm all "well, at least Kamala's speech writer didn't write this, otherwise it'd be even more annoying word-salad empty words with no true meaning behind any of it at all" and I guess that's a good thing, but man...

Since their mottos say "skating" and not "figure skating," Therefore, it must include Speed Skating. I looked it over to see if that changed my thoughts on the logo, but it did not.

I do think the logo works better in some situations and others. The original reveal wasn't as good as the last post with the long quote. It works well as a small logo on a smaller gradient of just the paler colors.

The ISU can barely single-task!
Their marketing department is not going to solve all the problems the ISU has. Or any of them. Except poor marketing/branding. That's their function, not setting technical requirements, supervising judges or preventing athletes from being abused.

Whenever an organization does something like this, a subset of people complain that "they have more important things to take care of" as if the entire organization stopped doing their functions for a long time to work on the branding at the expense of other functions.

It's lazy criticism IMO.

If I saw some evidence that the ISU is actually doing something substantive to address its bigger issues, then I might believe it's capable of multi-tasking. But I don't see that evidence.
