I think this show deserves a thread of its own! It took place last weekend in the Arena di Verona (colosseum), the two evenings were sold out, 13.000 spectators each night. The cast included Kostner, Lambiel, V/T, C/L, Verner, a male and female corps, a synchro team, opera singers, orchestra & choir as well as Ellie Goulding.

This concept is really one of a kind in the skating world right now. Will be broadcast on TV sometime soon. None of the videos can capture the magic of this location and production though - it's really incredible to see live!

Here are some photos that capture the set-up quite well: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.894023253999833.1073741840.657336997668461&type=3

And here are some videos (trying to post them in order of the show since it has a storyline, but I couldnt find most of the connecting group numbers):

Where you there?

I read the description for the various sections of the show, each part has a theme that is meant to convey a progression through different emotional states; from being in conflict with others and experiencing the pain of solitude, through to experiencing desire, companionship, joy and love.

Do you think that they succeeded in conveying this scenario through the performances and choreography, the staging and the music choices?

Thank you for opening the thread, jiggs!

This user has almost all the show on his/her channel:

The idea of development from darkness to light, from bad to good, from emptiness to love and passion was a complete replica of last year. And about half of the numbers were also taken "as is" from last year's production (choreo and lights, but different costumes). Luckily this year they didn't have annoying TV hosts and pop singers which were not connected to the story so this year the show was probably more "complete".

I was impressed by this production last year, but couldn't came this year. Maybe I should have come this year instead of last. But also maybe it's good I didn't go twice, because to see "recycled" show instead of the promised new one would have been disappointment for me. :)

Bonus: some videos from rehearsals if you're a fan of such things (I am!)

I watched the show this year and last year, and I have to say it was a lot better this year even though most of the group numbers were "recycled". IMO it didn't have a recycled overall look - there were a lot of new numbers in there too and in general I never had the feeling "Oh, but this is the same. How disappointing". The main aspects that have improved:

* Stage set-up: The one last year was massive and covered most of the arena backdrop. This year it was more subtle and the projections looked really amazing. The huge chandelier covered by the curtain that would open and close was really impressive and looked amazing with the light effects. I also thought the lighting and projections were much better this year.
* No commentators: Thank God they were finally gone. There was a lot of unnecessary talking going on in the previous editions and the commentators were really annoying.
* The pop singer was included in the overall concept: Ellie Goulding had 3 numbers that were woven into the show. She didn't overshadow the skating or dominate in any way. It was well balanced and it all had a good flow, whereas last year Pharell Williams or Anastacia were just randomly thrown in and not connected with the skating at all.
* In general I think they did succeed in conveying a storyline throughout the show. Some numbers were a little random but in terms of choreographic balance, they have also improved in comparison to the first edition. Last year's first act was amazing up to the part where they spread the fire, and then it kind of lost itself until the end. This year they did a much better job sticking to the storyline and building up the story until the end.

In general I think this show will need a couple of more years to develop and really reach its full potential. But I am just so impressed that something like this has been launched at all and that it has been so successful so far! Intimissimi as the main sponsor is absolutely fitting, even though it was a little much in some places. At times it felt like a product placement show/a marketing event more than a skating show. But they are such a huge brand and only with a partner like Intimissimi, an event like this is even possible in the first place. Through them and this show, skating reaches a much larger audience. For the premiere, Intimissimi had all their major testimonials, models and VIPs attending (Irina Shayk, Chiara Ferragni, ...), as well as some of the most important editors from fashion magazines etc. A lot of them have posted small videos or photos from the show on social media. Through that, our sport gets so much more mainstream exposure, which can only be a good thing imo!

Yes, me too, I have an impression that this year's show was better (in most of the aspects, except maybe that I was glad too see Jeffrey and that I loved "Burn" cover more than original one which was this year). That's why I wrote that maybe I should have come this year instead of last year.
As for recycled look, I guess, it's very subjective. First time in my life I see that show which takes half of the numbers from it's previous year is positioned in all promos as completely new. In general I don't like to be lied to my face.
I'm glad you didn't have that feeling, because you were the one who paid money this year and I feel deceived but at least I didn't spend tons of money for the journey and for the tickets. :)

Just a few examples to what I mean by "recycled" show (sorry, maybe not the best quality, didn't have time to search for better videos from last year)

Viva la Vida
Last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIoOya0KSjc
This year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoTJo5mjogg

Il Barbiere di Siviglia + Nessun Dorma
Last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIEZdFuLYG4
This year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X49fp3H-Nk

Burn
Last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bj0IrZXEiHo
This year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olmwfSOlpmE

And a few others, like "Carmina Burana", finale.
A few more kept projections, music and group choreo but had different skaters to perform it (Tomas this year - Anna/Luca last year, Tania/Max this year - Pang/Tong last year).

2016 show info: http://wwd.com/eye/fashion/andrea-b...arolina-kostner-ice-skating-october-10484977/
Andrea Bocelli is to perform live at “Intimissimi on Ice,” the show organized by the Italian innerwear brand. It is to take place at Italy’s Verona amphitheater on Oct. 7 and 8 [2016].
The event, titled “One Amazing Day,” links music, ice skating — with Olympic figure skaters Carolina Kostner and Stéphane Lambiel performing — and fashion into an entertainment experience with special lighting effect and projections.

Here is libretto of the show:

Balancing between reality and dream, the show tells the story of Bel’s fantastic day from sunrise to sunset and the meeting with her Hero.

Both are invited to a mysterious masquerade ball by the magical character, the Match Maker. Yet, the journey to the ball shows to be full of surprises and fantastic worlds; Bel and Hero are separated and we follow their paths through cities, enchanted forests, and circus fairs.

Eccentric and colourful characters accompany the protagonists along their journeys, for only to meet again in the final act, in a romantic ballroom dancing under the starry sky of a fantastic day coming to an end: One Amazing Day.

The protagonists are as always the finest figure skating champions, Carolina Kostner and Stéphane Lambiel, together with a rich cast of international talents. To the talents we add the Italian costume designer and four times Oscar-winner behind Marie Antoinette and The Grand Budapest Hotel, Milena Canonero, who will be designing all the costumes for the show. The scenography and stage are entirely new, but the real novelty is the live performance of one of the most famous Italian artists in an international panorama; Andrea Bocelli who will accompany the most emotional moments of the show.

Which gives hope the show will be indeed brand new this time (see above discussions about "recycling" of the last year ;) ).

Yesterday they had a "closed" event for employees of "Intimissimi" and "Calzedonia" + TV. They had something like this last year too.
You can find a lot of photos and videos on Instagram:
