Ilia Malinin Fan Thread!

They nearly always plan it -- let's see if it actually works out. I don't blame any skater who drops out -- Olympics plus Worlds is a LOT.
Especially if you win the Gold Medal. And already have won Worlds more than once. What's the point? I imagine Olympics is exhausting, too.

Ilia's SP music announcement (cross-posted in Programs thread):

Can someone explain the FS costume? On another thread it was said the puff sleeves were Urmnov - I agree, but not on Ilia. Also those cut-outs on the upper chest - more teenage girl blouse. Ilia approved these?

Russian and Japanese influence? We know that Russians like ornate costumes and Ilia's seems to both like Japanese street fashion and Japanese skaters, who are themselves given to highly ornate costumes. The pleats in the sleeves are very Issey Miyake. Or maybe he had a fever dream with Black Out by David Bowie playing in the background.

Ilia landed a sponsorship from Comcast!

Wow. Another major sponsorship deal for Ilia! Coca-Cola!

On the one hand, it's nice to see some money directed towards our sport. On the other, Coca-Cola is a truly horrible company. They're the world's single largest contributor to single use plastics that are clogging our oceans, killing marine life and introducing microplastics into our environment. And they're promotion of Dasani is significantly responsible for the shift from tap water to bottled water, which has in part fueled plastic waste and also diverts scarce water to a for-profit use. And in the U.S. at least, their use of corn syrup in their sodas is a factor in the decline of public health. They may be an iconic American brand but they're also an example of the worst of capitalism.

Anyway, love Ilia but I don't like seeing Coca-Cola celebrated.

Yeah, no, Dasani is NOT the reason why people have shifted from tap to bottled water. Ask anyone who has lived in a state like California where the tap water is so disgusting it cannot be drank without first being heavily filtered. Forty years ago, everyone I knew, including my own family, had bottled water in our homes - and not the single use plastic bottles - which are recyclable, btw. Also, Dasani is one of the poorer tasting bottled waters - give me Aquafina or Arrowhead any day over Dasani.*

* - I only buy bottled water nowadays when I'm on a road trip or when I was heading to an annual convention where I would get super-dehydrated so I wanted plenty of cold water available in my hotel room. As a native Oregonian, where our tap water is wonderful, I have no need for bottled water on a regular basis, but if I lived in California still, you bet I'd have bottled or filtered water.
