Ok everyone. I was thinking about this, and I have another question...Am I right at saying that when practicing standing on one blade near the wall on ice...you should point your Toe-Pick down first? I was wondering about this, because I found that pointing my toe down on the floor helps me balance better. Am I correct?

@FSWer when you are standing still on the ice, you should try to balance on the "sweet spot" on the blade, under the ball of your foot. Usually when you stand still on the ice, you're getting ready to glide or to start stroking. If you balance on your toe pick when you stand still, you're going to be stuck on the pick and won't be able to move. You could also fall, and hurt yourself really badly, if you're on your toe picks and you try to start gliding or stroking.

You could also ask your coach to help you find the right spot to balance on your blade.

So I should just basicly balance on the heal of my blade?

No. If you go that far back on your blade, you are going to fall backwards and really hurt yourself.

Where you want to balance is on the part of the blade right under the ball of your foot, where your toes join onto the rest of your foot. It's hard to describe in words, but hold onto the boards with both hands and face the boards. Then very slowly rock forward and back on your blades. You will feel the spot on the blade where it feels most balanced to stand still.

Ask your coach to show you how to find where to stand on the blade. That is the safest way to figure it out.
