HOW DID YOU BECOME A SKATER?

Say,I was wondering how all our Skaters here became Skaters? I became a Skater from just being attracted and interested in Figure Skating...and asking to try it.

My mother "decided" I should go into skating. First I didn't like it; later on I got into skating nicely.

My mom started me skating when I was very little. She had been a competitive roller skater. I’m not sure why she chose ice over roller for me, though.

I saw Karen Magnussen in the Ice Capades and had to learn how to skate after that. Started the whole obsession...lol

My mom signed me and my sister up for a few lessons so we would be able to skate socially on public sessions. I liked it and was interested so I wanted to keep taking lessons and become a figure skater. My sister just got enough skills to be comfortable on the ice and then switched to tennis lessons.

I and basically everyone had roller skates when I was little, to skate around the neighborhood, and infrequently at a roller rink. I had only gone ice skating once when I was 6yo, then when I was 12yo, the school took us ice skating every week for 5 weeks. I was so in love with ice skating that I just kept going. I could automatically skate from the very beginning and felt very comfortable, never fell a sngle time, until I started jumping while taking lessons. I think the roller skating is the reason it was so easy to ice skate.

When I was 12, I went to visit my extended family for a month and I stayed with my aunt. My 16 year old cousin was an instructor at the ice rink, and she took me along to work. I skated every day for that month and I loved it. Unfortunately we didn’t live anywhere near a rink so I never got to keep up with it. Now, 20 years later I live near a rink and I’m finally taking lessons! Never too late, right?

It is ABSOLUTELY never too late! I stopped skating at 16, came back to the ice at 32, and haven't looked back since. Wooohooo for adult skaters!!
