Just from looking at the protocols: he got only level 2 on twizzles, but more importantly, something was wrong with their rotational lift which got negative GOE.

Noah: We are feeling good. Of course we are still improving, but we are much better. We were training for the Olympic selection. We finished the event in Milan, and after that we trained even harder to go to Lombardia Trophy and make a good senior entrance, and keep climbing the ranks. I ended up dislocating my knee and I had a few problems with my ligaments.Now we spent a lot of time with a bunch of doctors in our federation, just recovering, trying to remain the base value of our skating and our health, but also realizing that I wasn’t able to fully train.We finally really started fully training maybe a week and a half ago. We went to this event because this is the last chance if we want to go for the rest of the season. We were like, we have nothing to lose. Of course we wanted to come to this senior maybe with a great entrance, but we have to be realistic and understand everything that happened. And I mean, all things considered, we accomplished our mission. Now we are motivated to train for the Italian nationals and hopefully get to the Europeans.Noemi: I had to skate alone for quite a bit of time. But I mean, I knew he was off because of medical reasons. I was just trying to keep my shape. And I trained a lot when he came back onto the ice. It was a long period, like from September until the end of November, that we were not fully training. The fact that we came here and brought two not super clean but two competitive programs is a big achievement for us. Of course we want to show that we are capable of much more. But overall we think this period will make us stronger.On their Free Skate:Noemi: You can see the back of Noah’s costume. It’s a hand-painted Medusa. So I play Medusa and he is Perseus.Noah: It’s the theme of Perseus and Medusa. At the beginning I try to kill her as in the original.Noemi: Then I’m trying to persuade him looking into my eyes. The story progresses and more than of trying to kill one another, we are trying to break the odds and go together, fight for ourselves and one another.

Gina: We felt good today, and this really felt like the best competition so far this season. Especially the rhythm dance yesterday felt very good.

Beda: We were honestly a bit surprised by the score yesterday as well as today.
Today there were some small mistakes, but overall we think we skated better than last week in Tallinn, where the scores were actually higher.

Their free dance is inspired by the movie The Truman Show. They want to show variety in their programs while still staying true to themselves and their style. The idea for this program was given to them by their choreographer and coach Alisa Besseghier.

Gina says that now she can train at full capacity again after her injury this summer.

Leah: During this Free Dance we were very present and honestly I really enjoyed skating the Free Dance today. I’m really happy about it.

Artem: We made some changes to the Free Dance and I’m really happy about these. It really helps us develop the music a little bit better. We added the assisted jump in the middle of the program, the choreo-assisted jump in the middle of the program instead of at the end. And it allows us to really play with it, play with the musicality and I really enjoy this new change.

On their season so far:
Artem: I think the main thing is that we are focused on continuing to improve. We have a lot of room for improvement that we are trying to achieve, so I guess this is the main focus.
Leah: I would say it’s been a tough season. I think we’ve really been trying to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone. We have a lot of people who support us, each other, our coaches, our families.

Artem: We also have a lot of fans who are very supportive. We have some back home in Colorado Springs and also here a couple of people came to support us. We are really grateful for all the fans and friends and family that are supporting us.

On the next steps:
Artem: We will really focus on cleaning up the programs before nationals and continue developing.

Ikura: I really liked gaining the experience here at an international event. This event also showed us where are our weaknesses and what we need to work on. So I really appreciate this experience.

Koshiro: I honestly was a bit sad to see that we didn’t achieve the minimums for the Four Continents. But it was really nice to be back at an international competition.

Koshiro said that last year was a little bit of a transitioning episode for him. He has been thinking of doing ice dance for a long time, but during the last season he found the strength to really take this step and go to ice dance. The suggestion to do ice dance with Ikura actually came from Ikura’s singles coach, Mie Hamada.

Ikura had tried pair skating before as well [in 2021 with Sumitada Moriguchi], but she really enjoys ice dance much more. She does the double amount of training right now for singles and for ice dance. But for now, she says she can do it.

At the Sectionals, she also had to do two competitions the same day — ice dance and women. It will be the same at Nationals, but the experience she had there doing both on the same day makes her feel more confident about this going into Nationals.

While Ikura says it really calms her down skating with a partner and not being alone on the ice, Koshiro says he’s not so sure about this yet. He is too much of a perfectionist and it makes him very nervous because he wants to be perfect not only for himself, but also for his partner.

Koshiro said that he met with his longtime training mate Deniss Vasiļjevs the first day at the practice, and they were both so happy to see each other. He said that a year ago he would never have dreamed of or could have imagined that they would meet again in this scenario at an international competition. He was so happy that Deniss came yesterday to watch the rhythm dance. Today, unfortunately, it was not possible because of the practice schedule, but he hopes he can cheer for Deniss tonight.
