I read somewhere that competitive skaters say it is very slow, requires a lot more effort to move, and dulls their blades much faster than natural ice.

Also, I've seen some pretty hairy accidents on Glice where recreational skaters catch an edge, and down they go. It is the equivalent of skating on a vegetable cutting board.

I can subscribe to what @essence_of_soy wrote. At some events in our vicinity we had small rinks of this kind installed, and instructors of our club showed the kids how to "skate". I put the quotation marks because you can barely call it skating.

Your blades will be blunt after 10 minutes.

I’ve skated on synthetic ice. In my experience it requires constant stroking because you can only glide for a few seconds. So, I was exhausted after 10 minutes. Good idea in theory. You’ll get a great lat/glute burn going though.
