I am not sure if this Q&A/interview has already been linked in another thread, but this is good stuff by Elena Buyanova. (y)

vv This question and answer, in particular, caught my attention.

After the World Championships, the famous coach Elena Tchaikovskaya expressed an opinion that increase quads in men’s skating will change the selection of athletes. In demand will be boys of short stature, with short legs, so with a lower center of gravity.

– And where to get them? If our boys are physically different from Asians, we can’t change genetics. In general, not many boys come to figure skating, and after a year of training even less of them stay, many go to hockey. So we have to work with those we have.

Interesting interview..... must say, some Russian youngsters nowdays have bad manners. Not the first coach or teacher complaining. In our days, no matter what the situation was between the two it was mandatory to come and say good-buy in PERSON, WITH BOX OF CHOCOLATE AND FLOWERS! that's how it was, and that's how it should be.

(and i am big fan of Adelina..... but!)
"– The whole last season I almost did not see Adelina. I was finding out from the Internet where she is. It’s a shame that she told about her decision over phone, by sending SMS. Knowing her, I understand that it’s easier for her. But in life you need to be able to overcome yourself. "

... the news "Skate and the City" thing "he broke up with me on post-it"....... "she left her coach on SMS"..

This is the right way!

"thank you, teacher/coach, for my success"...

There are special "thank you teacher" and "for my teacher" gift sets..

This interview is a year old and I need a new answer to this question:

Why do you prefer to work with a small number of students?

I want to know if her answer has changed because she has literally went from coaching Sotskova, Radionova, Chistyakova and co-sharing Danielian to adding at least six more students (4 being high profile) in the last few months :shuffle: So she went from 3-4 students to 10, maybe more. What made her decide to take on so many students? :watch:

Yes, I chuckled when I read that part ["why do you prefer to work with a small number of students?"] because of how everything has changed on a dime for Elena and her skaters (plural!) I guess when a skater comes a-knocking, you don’t say no to them.

I was curious to see if someone would catch that, but assumed not since the interview is dated, maybe a bit boring by now and considered old, tired news, but, nonetheless interesting to me because of the size of future (men) competitors question and answer as it relates to quads (thinking ISU Congress), and the recent developments at Elena's rink.

I think Elena and her group (because now she does have her own group) will be fascinating to watch.

This newest coach-of-the-moment (Elena) might become the latest Russian coach o’ drama superseding the likes of Eteri and Anna. Is that even possible? Not that I'm looking for angst and disruption, but the goings-on are always … interesting?? Stay tuned…

Well, she drove away Inna G. and they have a nice new rink and who else would a high profile skater go to @ CSKA now? Sokolovskaya? :slinkaway

It's not like she is doing everything by herself...I am sure she barely works with Sergei at all, for example.

The article headline is: In sport everything is fleeting including Buyanova's circumstances. Just goes to show how quickly things do change in this sport from one season to the next.

Could be. Re: Sergei and other students working w/ coaches that have high-profile students, that was my point to a couple of my comments in the coaching change thread, is that not every student will have the advantage of one-on-one time with their head coach, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are getting shortchanged.

The interview exchanges they had about the ideal body size required for quads, etc., is what really caught my eye and why I linked this Q&A since there is a never-ending debate about jumps and particularly the quad jump. With the ISU Congress reconvening, I figured an article like this might tie-in nicely with all of that and highlight at least one coach’s opinion regarding that topic.

I also have an interest in keeping an eye on Team Elena because I root for Maria, Elena, and Polina and do hope they all manage to thrive during their time at her rink... Speaking of Rad, she said this weeks ago. It's already been discussed in another thread, but worthy of a repeat, and because I appreciate her general outlook and attitude:

New girls joined your group, what do you think about this?

– To be honest, I do not care. Apparently, I left the age when I was worried about new athletes in the group. Now I understand that everything depends only on me, my desire and my skating. I have good contact with Elena Germanovna. We understand each other. Need to work.

That's the spirit!! Go get 'em, Elena! :cheer2:

If everyone can successfully manage the ice time, hopefully, Elena's group will motivate each other and get along without incident … As @DobrinFan mentioned, Elena has more high-profile students now to juggle and travel w/ to comps, so that's a handful, but sure to be entirely worth it.
