Deanna Stellato-Dudek (FOREVER!) & Maxime Deschamps (HOT!) Cheer Thread

^^^ @sk9tingfan that person on Twitter/X was joking. ;) ETA that their followup tweet says: "in all seriousness this man was definitely just in mtl for the funeral of one of the old prime ministers yesterday and probably decided to stick around for an extra day"

For context, I had posted this in the Canadian Pairs news thread last week:

She's on track to get her citizenship without actually needing it expedited. IIRC at the latest she should be able to have it by summer/fall 2025. The turnaround time is usually 5-6 years. I can see why Maxime would mention getting it advanced though because the process can take ages.

I take a lot of ID photos for passports, permanent residence and citizenship applications. Sometimes the customers and I chat.

❤️ all of the posts

I thought the one article would’ve addressed it but when she moved north to Montreal did her husband go with her? I’m curious as how they worked that out if he went with or he stayed behind in Chicago?

Top seeded Deanna & Max's 2024 Grand Prix assignments are #2 Skate Canada International and #5 Finlandia Trophy.

From the end of Canadian sports journalist Rob Brodie's substack post today (June 12) about Canada's GP assignments that were announced on June 9: https://rwbrodiewrites.substack.com/p/some-grand-news-and-a-milestone

Allow me to take you back to the events of March 21, the night Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps put Canada back on top of the World pairs podium. It was an unforgettable (and lengthy) night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, with the post-event press conference not finishing until 11:45 p.m. We’d barely gotten back to the media centre when we were told the building had to be vacated by midnight (house rules). It meant packing up my computer, schlepping 15 minutes down the street to my hotel, and figuring out how to sum up what I’d seen.

One thing I’ve learned in this business, though, is this: the more exhilarating the moment you’ve seen, the easier it can be to describe it. That 15-minute walk back to the hotel gave me time to think about the whole thing, and the words just flowed when I got going. It was the best thing I wrote all week [note: article is linked below]. Near the end of it all, I noticed the clock in the corner of my computer screen was ticking toward 2 a.m. And I had this thought:

“I’m not even getting paid to do this! Why am I still up?”

But then, almost immediately, this thought …

“Now you know you’re doing this for the right reason.”

Like I said, labour of love. And not an ounce of regret.

Re-posting here from the 2024 Skate Canada International subforum in Kiss & Cry:
I don't know how many will be able to access this link from the (Manitoba) Free Press, but it is about Deanna's journey, starting with her first international outing in Winnipeg in 1998 through to her hopes to compete at the 2026 Olympics in Italy.
Thank you @Skate Talker :) - I always enjoy reading Laurin Nealin's articles. Loved this part:
Yet, the seemingly ageless Stellato-Dudek has never forgotten her first international assignment as a singles competitor for Team USA.
“It was so exciting at that age to get an international and even though it was only in Canada, it still felt like such a big deal,” recalled the Chicago-born athlete.
Stellato-Dudek was one of eight young women chosen to compete in Winnipeg at the 1998 North American Challenge Skate ((NACS), a now defunct event intended to give promising novice level skaters from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico early experiences with international competition.
The Free Press reported at the time Stellato had “created the biggest buzz of the competition” as she “nailed triple jump after triple jump” during practice sessions at the Dakota rink.
When asked what she wanted to accomplish in the next three years, the then U.S. novice women’s champion answered, “Well, that’s the year before the (2002) Olympics, so I want to be world champion and the next year win the Olympics.”
When reminded of her long-ago ambition following the pairs practice on Thursday, Stellato-Dudek exclaimed, “Wow. That’s so crazy. Had the (Olympic mindset), then didn’t, then got it back.
“The 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2006 Olympics, I was actually aiming for both,” she continued. “2006 was also in Italy, so it’s very hilarious that 20 years later I’m trying to go the Olympics in Italy again. It’s a very full circle, comedic moment.”
Encouraging citizenship news updates are posted in Deanna's thread in GSD (posts #40-42): https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...-rather-than-later.111726/page-2#post-6667687
