Captain America: Civil War

Martin Freeman was on Graham Norton and he sounded suprised when he said how much he liked it. That is a good thing since he is in it.

I know actors want to do these films because they are big bucks/big audience but it seems more than that to me. It's like this exclusive little club and they are IN. They are psyched to be part of it. I think I might feel the same way in their shoes. And the between Avengers, Guardians and XMen the club is pretty big. Personally I'm waiting impatiently for Dr. Strange. And to see an black person in a starring role--so Black Panther come on down!! And then there is always Star Wars, Star Trek, J.K Rowling's world, Tolkien's world and whatever else is on the horizon. Opportunies abound. I'd like to see Dr. Who get the cinematic treatment.

Saw it last night after thinking I wouldn't be able to. Last minute ticket purchase and I was an idiot - instead of the back row, I purchased the very front row! Yikes, not the way to watch an action-packed movie, but we loved it anyway. With a promise to see it again, this time much further back in the theater.

Great movie!

LOVED IT! Although I still prefer Winter Soldier since it slowed down for the emotional scenes. (So 9/10 for that.) This one was just go-go-go, barely touching on the parts where we're really supposed to FEEL something

(Aside from the TWO (!!!) scenes where it insists on documenting every single miserable second of Bucky trying to fight off the programming :wuzrobbed Buckyyyyyy :wuzrobbed )

Even the supposedly brutal scenes at the end went by too quickly for me to emotionally process them properly. Maybe it'll change on subsequent viewings. The pace at which this went reminded me of Dark Knight Rises, except Civil War had a much tighter story.

But seriously, the fact that this is so tight with so many characters? Definitely a miracle. We shouldn't worry about Infinity Wars.

And SPIDER-MAN!!!! :cheer: I didn't really like any of the previous Spider-Man movies, but this kid was so adorable and earnest. Love the kid. I will watch all the things with him in them.

And seriously, Natasha is my spirit animal. She makes decisions in the film I would totally make, 100%.

The movie improved to a 9.5/10 for me on a 2nd viewing. And I agree with critics who say Zemo is one of the best villains so far in the MCU. Black Panther, Spider-Man & Ant Man were all fabulous!

SPOILERS

I loved in interaction on screen between Bucky and Falcon! "Could you move your seat up? No!", "Couldn't you have done that before? I hate you." My least favourite character is Vision because he is too powerful which makes him dull. And I hope there is no romance between him and Scarlet Witch in the future although I know it is a big part of the comics.

Can't think of anything I found that was really wrong with the movie but I do have a couple of minor irritants...

1)the shaky camera work during the Lagos fight scene. Not a fan at all of that sort of thing.
2) where did the camera that recorded Howard Stark's death come from? That road looked really lonely, dark and deserted to me. And what was he doing transporting top secret and dangerous materials in the trunk of his car?!
3) The letter and phone delivered to Stark at the end was a bit too much of a neat tie up for me. I much rather would have seen more of Cap breaking the rest of his merry band out of prison because I bet Black Panther and Wasp had something to do with the prison break. LOL

Yes, for the fact that this was a Captain America movie I was worried that they were throwing so many characters into this one and it was basically turning into Avengers 3. But I was impressed that they really gave everyone their moment, and still didn't forget that this was Cap's movie.

@Buzz I also agree with the shaky cam fight scene at the beginning. I watched it in a regular theater, so wasn't sure if that camera work was for the 3D version, but it was super annoying and I'm glad the later fights didn't have that issue.

I need a movie ASAP where they roadtrip grumpily in a tiny VW Bug, fighting crime.

I didn't dig the huge time/location stamps. Reminded me too much of a Taylor Swift music video.

REALLY wish the music had more oomph. I heard more Avengers theme than Captain America theme, and it really didn't add to the proceedings the way it did in The Winter Soldier.

Re: the ending
For me the point of it was to show that Steve had officially shed the "Captain America" symbol. He leaves Tony the shield, and he shows up to break his teammates out of jail in civilian clothing.

That was definitely an interesting way to end a superhero film. The conflict is still unresolved, but we learned A LOT about the characters, which was a huge part of the emotional climax.

The Ending:

Yeah that shield thingie at the end was powerful stuff. I was cringing in my seat. That is the kinda scene that you might expect to find in a Bronte sisters novel not a superhero movie. Can't wait to see Bucky with his new vibranium arm!

And I wish we were getting the Black Panther movie sooner rather than later because I want to see the Dora Milaje in action!

Just saw it and really enjoyed it. I was very impressed with how they were able to balance so many characters and the action sequences were amazing. I loved Spiderman so much. So adorable! Black Panther and Antman were also great.

I think bringing Spidey in was seriously the highlight of the movie. It just gave it that pop when things were so serious. He was a great addition.

Yeah, when Tony was recruiting him, I was thinking, "Wait, why do they need a HS kid to search for a few superheroes?" but then I realized he was recruiting a team to be able to take these guys down if they needed to. (LOTS of people have commented on Tony being irresponsible for recruiting a HS kid, where he was guilt-tripped into the Accords by the death of a young person, which is why I'm very much TeamCap. :D )

And then Peter came in with all of his adorable earnestness and then I didn't really care anymore.

I can't help but think that poor Spider-Man is in for a rude awakening in his solo movie. He was just waaay too star struck over Stark.

TOTALLY. He explained his values to Tony and I was like, "Wait....that makes him Team Cap!" Tony is such a sneaky bastard.

Spidey is totally team Cap or he will be by the end of his movie next year! :cheer2: Which begs the question of who will go the other way to team Iron Man?

I saw it again with Alf this weekend, and it felt more like Avengers 2.5 than a Captain America movie. Yes, the central conflict revolves around Steve and his friend Bucky, but it makes zero attempts to truly resolve anything with them. It really did feel like an excuse to
break the Avengers apart
to add more drama to Avengers 3.

It's entertaining and parts of it are as fun as you can possibly get at the movies. And it does what it sets out to do as well as could be expected. But I don't really consider it the last film to a self-contained trilogy, because we'll have to see Avengers 3 (and maybe beyond) to see how these characters grow further. Part of me is miffed that the Avengers took over a Captain America movie, another part of me is like, "I don't think I should complain about having Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie in MORE MOVIES made by the same guys who did Winter Soldier..."

More Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans?! Yes please! :smokin: The only movie I am not looking forward to is
Doctor Strange, because it looks too much like inception. I just can't seem to get excited about it at all.
