Ok...I don't believe we've ever talked about this before...and I'm not sure about ALL our Skaters here. But...what I would like to ask all our Medalist here...if it's ok to ask is....How many x's Medalist are you? If you are a Medalist in more than one Discipline...please include how many x's for each Discipline.

I don't think any of us here are National, World, or Olympic medalists. I have medals from US Adult Nationals, but that's not the same thing. I'm sure many of us have bunches of medals stashed away from club competitions (mine are in an old shoe box), but most of us don't really keep count of those. When you say a skater is a "two time gold medalist" or whatever, usually you're referring to big titles like Nationals, Worlds or the Olympics.

For some of the local competitions, there might only be 2-3 of us in Adult Silver to begin with, so being a medalist isn't that much of an accomplishment in and of itself. For me it's always been about skating my program well, not so much where that places me. To be fair, I never placed badly when I skated really well so things tend to work out :).

In freestyle, I almost always finished last or next-to-last. I like to say that once I finished next-to-last in a two-person event, so they gave me a gold medal.

The one I'm most proud of is the pewter medal I won for finishing fourth at Adult Sectionals. I had to beat four other skaters to earn that. :D

Quite a few, mostly ISI medals. Most proud of USFS competition bronze and silver medals I won at at an adult competition called the Halloween Classic, two different years, more than 10 years ago. Mostly because I didn't come in last for a change!!!!

I think the terminology also refers to people who have passed the final tests, which has nothing to do with the winning of competitions. If you pass just a single area all the way through, you are considered a gold medalist. If you pass the top level in 3 disciplines, you are a triple gold medalist. There are several skaters at the rink here who wear their USFS gold medalist jackets all the time, and at least one coach who likes to wear hers when teaching.

You could call them a gold, silver, or bronze medalist of their event. Usually we just say we "medaled" or we "placed" or we were "on the podium". People just don't usually keep count of how many medals they won at small club competitions.

@FSWer a medalist is someone who wins a medal at any competition. But @treesprite is pointing out that people who pass high-level skating tests, usually the gold tests (the most difficult ones), can also call themselves gold medalists.

At US Figure skating competitions, there are usually 4 medals: gold, silver, bronze, and pewter for 4th place (because at Regionals and Sectionals, 4 skaters advance to the next level).

For Ice Skating Institute competitions, there are gold, silver and bronze medals, and sometimes 4th and 5th place ribbons.
