BBC/British Eurosport Olympic Coverage

So it looks like Eurosport is more reliable than the BBC this time around as I don't think they are adding more Red Button Channels for the Winter Olympics. Kind of strange as they do it for the Summer Games. So it's just the ONE Red Button at the moment.
Any updates for British Skating fans just post it on here. British Eurosport will show the final groups for the Figure Skating live.

Subscribe to Eurosport player online. Everything is live and also available on catch up. If you go for the monthly option, you only pay 99p for the first month (just remember to cancel before you get billed for March!) You can use Chromecast/Amazon Fire/Roku etc to get the player on your TV.

I'm happy getting the final groups live and sooo happy it's Chris and Simon:):cheer2:
Are they actually there?

I am sure they will, I can't imagine the whole event will be on one red button, there will be choices of sports surely.

Bad news, unlike the Summer Olympics the BBC will not add any extra channels on television.

I don't understand, there will be no red button coverage?
Just the one Red Button that they have running all year round. Incredibly insulting to Winter sports fans. Wimbledon & the Summer Olympics still get multi button coverage.
Boring Curling will probably take up most hours of coverage. Cross your fingers that Skating gets a fair bulk too. Complain to the BBC, I have. No reply yet.

Very strange, as they had many red buttons for the last few Winter Olympics, so we got to see all the skaters.
I wonder if it's a cost cutting exercise, pretty surprising, how did you find this out so early? I see you are right though, as by now there would have been many choices on the red button.
I get the Russian channels but can't watch as Trankov usually butchers the events by talking through literally every second of the broadcast. He's already in Korea, so will most probably be commentating.

I realised early because usually the Red Button Channels pop up the Day before the opening ceremony & there was nothing. I'm really disappointed at this. I doubt the BBC will show the Skating events in full like they usually have in previous Olympics. Eurosport is only showing the last hour of the skating. So it's slim pickings.

Well it's going to be no problem getting up in the middle of the night to watch live:p
I stayed up for Vancouver but I may go to bed early then get up:p Hope they show the medal ceremonies. I remember Sochi having flower podiums then the medals another day .What was all that about?

Pretty bad only having one red button BBC:(

for people who get eurosport via virgin or other non sky providers, there will be 3 extra pop channels on eurosport. Im pretty sure that would mean you would get to see all the skating.

I get Sky & pay a lot for it, so I'm really annoyed we do not get these pop up channels.

Is the pairs LP not being shown on Eurosport? I can't find any listings for it live or highlights later

They cancelled it due to all the skiing being backlogged, its now a recorded version at 8am in the morning.
If the skiing gets cancelled again it will be on but you can watch it live on the Eurosport player, which has great pic quality. Not the same as watching it on a TV though.
If you have a smart TV you can watch the app on your tv too.

Thank you :)

I can't even find it listed at 8am - is it on Eurosport 1 or 2?

Sadly I can't get up to watch it live I just want to record it.

They probably haven't decided on the schedule yet but it will probably be on euro 1 as they've used euro 2 only for hockey matches but Simom Reed mentioned it in the pairs short yesterday, that it will be moved to 8am. Keep checking though.

Thank you!
PF eurosport 2 at 6pm today and they've dropped the mens short from the live coverage now, this is quite unbelievable and sad that skating has become so irrelevant even at the Oympics. The ISU only have themselves to blame.

No way!! The men's short has been dropped from the live coverage? That is pretty shocking.

Is any of the skating available on the BBC iplayer do you know? I plan to have a look tonight but a colleague at work said she's watched some of the team even on the iplayer.

Yes the BBC has shown a lot of the skating live on the red button, they are usually starting about half way through.
For example last night they started from the penultimate group.
I am not sure whether there are archived videos though. You should subscribe to the eurosport player, it's all live on that, every skater and you can watch it on demand video whenever you want. it stays on for about a month.

I didn't realise that you could watch on demand afterwards. I'm not in a position to watch live unfortunately.

If they've sacked off the men then i'm definitely going to look at subscribing to the eurosport player.

Thanks,

well worth it, you can catch up in your own time.

Just looked and the 99p offer is available until the end of Feb. I will definitely look into this tonight. Thanks again!

ETA: I've no idea how I missed @morqet 's post number two in this thread that had all that detail :duh:

Don’t know if it’s the same for Virgin Media in the UK, but here in Ireland we have had extra Eurosport channels pop up for these Olympics and the skating has been shown entirely live including zamboni breaks and no ads.

The downside is Belinda and Jim commentating.

I have absolutely no idea how Jim van Horne got the Eurosport gig.

Here in Canada, his career has been spent mainly anchoring sports news highlight shows rather than live event commentary. Pre-event research is definitely not his forte (nor matter what the sport he covers).

I thought it was great coverage and thought they were ok. For the last two groups I switched over to Chris and Simon:p

Is there away to watch the coverage from the BBC or Eurosport UK of Worlds? Do they stream past competitions? Just curious.

At the BBC Iplayer you can register and watch the free skates/free dance of worlds with a vpn if you are not in the UK
