She has seen it all, from Tonya Harding's scandalous hit job on Nancy Kerrigan, to the barren airports of Cold War Russia. She has been a part of five Olympics and 10 World Championships.
But when [Gale] Tanger served as referee at the World Figure Skating Championship in Boston at the end of March, it was her last international event. The International Skating Union has a mandatory retirement at the age of 70. <snip>
Tanger will stay involved in skating. She has plans to keep training the next generation of judges and continue her service as an official for domestic events.

I always wondered how Skate Milwaukee gets Alexander Lakernik to come give seminars. It must be her influence.

Kudos to her for years of dedication to the sport and to all the officials who volunteer so much of their time and effort to support skating.
