The NY Times has a long obituary if you are able to read it. A truly inspiring human being. This summer I read a book containing his dialogues with the Dalai Lama and was profoundly moved.

He was a giant of a man, opposing not only apartheid but also homophobia and heterosexism. South Africa was very lucky to have him. The actual service begins at about the 4 hour mark after the arrival of dignitaries, some interviews, etc. and it lasts about 2 & 1/2 hours.
A number of years ago I had the opportunity to visit "his" Cathedral, St. George's in Cape Town, the location of the funeral today.
