HEY EVERYONE!! I just got back from practice today at Veterans Memorial Ice Rink, and I must say that along with practicing my One-Foot Glide and finding that I'm getting better with it (at least holding on to the wall LoL.). I once again got taken around the rink by another Skater...and she said I did very well. Another Skater even told me a trick to get yourself used to skating away from the wall...and I don't know if anyone here has been taught this. But she said that if you walk or march a little bit away from the wall facing the ice, and then step back again towards the wall,and keep doing that...It will help you get used to not needing the wall. Has anyone here ever been taught this? I must admit though, that at this time away from the wall, I usually feel a little nervous that I'm going to fall. But I think I'm gaining confidence though. I am also still trying to figure out too how to put speed on my marches and and go faster and get distance on my skating. I did try bending my knees while marching. But, just ended up walking with my knees bent. Can anyone help? Thanks.

@FSWer I don't understand how you can march without bending your knees. Can you explain what you're doing when you say you are marching?
 
Ok Overedge. Sorry to not be so clear. But that's what my coach Nick calls it. When you go and use 2 feet at a time. If I remember right, he told me to bend my knees while marching to put speed on my skating.
 
@FSWer if you're gliding on two feet then yes, you might go faster if you bend your knees. It's hard to explain in words, but when you start gliding on two feet, you're using the energy from the push that started you gliding. If you bend your knees, that makes your body a little more stable and centered over your skates, and the energy from the push will last a little longer.
 
@FSWer gliding is moving after you push. Usually you only push after your gliding has slowed down and you're about to stop moving. It helps your push be a little stronger if your knees are slightly bent, because that helps the energy from the push move you forward.
