Alysa Liu cheer/fan thread

And Alysa is ALSO a part of Team Samsung!

YAY! 🤩 I LOVE that the endorsements are coming in for some of our top skaters like Alysa, Ilia, Amber, and Isabeau! The Olympic season is always a figure skaters best chance, especially compared to professional ball players, etc!

Alysa seem to have listened to the comments about her hair
I don't think she is responding to comments. I think she is doing what she wants to do and already had planned to change her hair today. This was discussed on The Runthrough today. She even brought toner with her to St. Louis.

I think there are plenty of people who still won't like her hair. If she were really trying to please these people, she would have gone to her natural color. She is doing what she wants to do, and it's fun to watch.

Maybe different colors per her dresses. She's certainly her own person. I don't have to like her hair to love her skating and joyful attitude but it's a tad distracting because I'm always trying to figure out why. I have to get over it!

The Gaga LP is really not that much different than the Donna Summer LP. The jump layout looks the same, and the choreography is really interchangeable with either piece of music.

I think the choreography is more specific to the music in the GaGa program. (Also, I like the slide in GaGa.) IMO, the weakness in both is that the footwork can look sluggish in comparison to the music, especially when she's tired. I thought it worked better earlier this week when she did a runthrough in practice but only marked the jumps. But, the adrenaline in Milan might help her the way it did in Boston. I'm guessing that she's going to use the Donna Summer program in Milan since that's what she's more comfortable with and the international judges have seen it and rewarded it.

I woke up this morning to Alysa starring in an ad for Venus razor blades on my TV. I'll have to see if I can find the clip on social media.
I see the 11-second clip on Gillette Venus' Facebook account - here's the ad: https://www.ispot.tv/ad/gLlz/gillette-venus-smooth-featuring-alysa-liu

St. Louis local news story and 2-minute video:
Liu, who paid a visit to Walmart in Maplewood, smiled for selfies while chatting with fans like it was any Saturday morning. She even signed autographs for super fans, some who waited hours to meet a likely 2026 U.S. Olympian.
Liu, a two-time national champion, was beaming with joy she says comes from the fans and a good nights sleep after her Silver medal win Friday in St. Louis.
“I don’t get that many chances to do this, so it’s great and I feel like it’s bringing the community together,” said Alysa as she thanked Venus for sponsoring the opportunity.
Another local article (Jan. 12): https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/s...colleens-cafe-cookies-her-top-st-louis-treat/
Now, a small café in Clayton can add its own name to that list thanks to an Olympic figure skater and a surprise box of cookies during the USFSA National Championships.
Colleen’s Café, a cozy brunch spot tucked into Clayton, has officially earned Olympic approval after Team USA figure skater Alysa Liu named its cookies as her favorite St. Louis treat during her visit to the city. [...]
The s’mores cookie Liu loved features graham cracker, chocolate, and a marshmallow roasted on top. But the standout for many customers, including Liu, is the lemon ricotta cookie.
“It’s a soft, cake-type cookie with ricotta cheese,” Thompson explained about their usual Spring/Summer best seller. “Then it has a lemon glaze with lemon zest on top.”
It’s a bold flavor combination; unexpected, but memorable, much like the skater who noticed it.

Alysa, Isabeau and Starr have partnered with Venus to promote their new "Extra Smooth Gold" razors - this is Alysa's brief video:

OK, you don't have to like Alysa's current "angel halo" hairstyle to comment :D - just thought I would share 2 videos by kelsey.styles.hair on Instagram who did Alysa's hair in St. Louis before her Nationals FS on Saturday:

My specialty is dimensional lived in color but my alter ego gives #angelhalos!
What an experience to have this babe in my chair! I could have listen to her stories alllll nite. She was humble, down to earth, strong willed, hilarious, smart, compassionate! @alysaxliu you are an inspiration and I will never forget this experience. I hope the world never lets you down or tries to take your sparkle away from you!

I love the Venus commercial. Alysa comes off eloquently organic.

Any word on the 3A?
I think you can bet that Alysa will keep us, and the media, all guessing on that! :D

ICYMI in the Olympics.com article posted above, Gracie Gold interviewed Alysa in St. Louis (scroll down for the 4-min. video for Olympics.com): https://www.olympics.com/en/milano-...a-free-skate-unlikely-for-milano-cortina-2026

Any word on the 3A? I was hoping that going back to Donna Summer, it would allow her time to concentrate on that
I was hoping the same!

In my dream scenario I was hoping Alysa would do the 3A in her SP, along with her backloaded 3L-3R combo, add another 3A in her FS, and also replace her 3L-3T in the FS with another 3L-3R! 😁

She (perhaps unwittingly) makes a strong case there for the raising of the minimum age that we had. Sounds like skaters can enjoy and appreciate everything so much more when they're a little older.

Dang, I love her perspective here

"These scores and placements, they don’t affect your art. Your art is still your art. There’s an ideal version of figure skating that I have in my head that might not ever happen, but in my dream world, everyone’s art is appreciated and we don’t really get scored. But because competitions are, unfortunately, the biggest stages, and that’s how our art gets seen and shared, we all really do have to compete. We’re really just individual artists, doing it together and competing, which is weird. But I like to think of it as we have our work, we share it, and whoever connects with it connects with it."

I love this so much. As a fan I've shifted my perspective to appreciating the competition arc as just the vehicle for skating in its current form. And that will change - we used to have world pros and COI and something new will come soon.

And on some level the ISU kinda sees that some change is needed (not that the current suggestions are very good).

You'd think, oh I don't know, they might ask current skaters what they might have in mind. Except since you arent supposed to express your thoughts in skating good luck.

Alyssa Liu, you are a miracle of sorts

For stun appeal I agree with you. However, it's actually slightly more beneficial points wise to keep the 3lz/3t in FS if she does the 3A. The loop would be in the bonus. If she did a 3lz/3R, the toe or salchow would be in the bonus. She benefits by keeping the 3Lz/3t by .006 (compared to salchow in bonus) or .007 (compared to toe in bonus). Of course, she could get a PCS bump for the shock value of a good 3lz/3R combined with a 3A.

I was actually hoping that she would put the 3L-3R in the FS bonus! She seems to get dinged for the 3L-3T in her FS fairly often and to paraphrase Jackie Wong (when he spoke about her new backloaded combo in her SP) if she's going to get a call, better that it happens on the harder 3L-3R combo in the bonus than on the frontloaded 3L-3T! 😁

Wow. If Alysa wins gold, I can see her making the jump into mainstream culture celebrity. Of course, DWTS; but also Project Runway, and even her own talk show. She might be that elusive skating phenom who can capture the valuable 18-34 demographic.
