I don't know if anyone else has seen this clip going around on Yahoo News. It is meant to explain about figure skating but it is the worst animation ever. Totally cringeworthy.

Yeah, those little figures look like they're going to topple over any second. I especially liked the twist where the woman rotated very slowly while the man froze.

Did the animators not watch any skating videos to see how skaters actually move, rotate, and land their jumps? It’s like the British Bake Off where they’ve gotten to the technical challenge, given vague instructions on something totally foreign to them, and have to produce and execute based on those instructions.

I like how the axel comes out on an inside edge counter to the direction of the jump. Plus the nightclub entry on the teams event.

It looked like someone with a VERY rudimentary level of skill in 3D animation did these - the intent was good, but to me it looked more like a lack of ability than knowledge. 3D animation is not easy.

This style of 'still doll athletes' (probably made from stock 3d figures?) may make sense in illustrating SOME sports, but surely not figure skating (I'm also imagining the slopestyle...)

that said, I'm looking forward to all the confetti and night club atmosphere at the Team Event!

Ice dancing is less demanding than pairs. Right.

I'm not sure the people responsible for this have ever seen a skating event. But they could have at least watched Yuri on Ice for inspiration.

I think they got the work experience student to do it.

Supervisor: "Do you know how to use a computer?".
WES: "Not really but I can try".
Supervisor: "That will be good enough. Just try your best".
