Adam Rippon on Quiet Starvation in Men’s Figure Skating

She has no academy. I think they will hold masterclasses in some rented icerinks in different places. But @Tinami Amori probably can help us with explanation. I read it with gogle translater. And I'm sure the weight is problem only for the highest level skaters not for the little skaters.

Actually it is not. I have heard young skaters (7 - 9 years old, learning axels and doubles) talking about needing to “lose weight” so that they can jump. They have heard that somewhere and it is very frightening.

that is terrible, dangerous and absolutely unnecessary.

And it comes because people in person, in the media, and on message boards like this keep perpetuating the myth that losing weight will get a skater better jumps.

When I first saw the headlines I thought of Christopher Bowman RIP

There are some very skewed perspectives in the skating community, today there are still coaches who tell their young students to lose weight. It's always "the less there is of you, the easier it is to get into the air." It's easy for us to brush off hearing these once or twice and chalking it up to "being fit," but to the skater it could mean the whole world.

When Patrick Chan came back in 2015, all of the articles included quotes about losing weight and how his jumps felt lighter. It' not Patrick's fault he opened up about it but I know at the time it gave some young skaters I knew the wrong idea. It's up to the coaches to be educated and stamp out this kind of attitude. Canada's coaching certification actually does include classes on nutrition and everything but I still hear some really bad things....

you don't give up.. :lol:but my opinion has not changed

Probably but I get tired of that poster responding to posts over and over where people point out that it's not just "skinny is better" and show actual skaters and coaches who say they lost power and skated poorly when they got too thin with skinny is better! and you if you don't agree, you have your head in the sand!

I get your point. Unfortunately, we cannot other people minds so I try hard to ignore the non-sense I read, most of the time... but I fail at this sometimes...;)

I am sadly surprised to see how most of the top ice dancers are getting thinner and thinner. Capellini, Weaver, Chock come to my mind. I don't think it's for the better...

Ugh, I'm so used to it in ice dance and pairs. I do think girls with certain body types go into those disciplines but still...
