You may have been there at the same time I was? I had it high on my list of things to do, only to get there and them say there was some last-minute concert added so no one was allowed in all day

My other half who's obsessed with the Roman Empire was incredibly disappointed. But I'm always happy to have a reason to go back to Italy. Maybe as part of my 2030 Chamonix/Nice plans?

If you can, go in the summer and see a concert. Any concert. Seeing a concert at sunset at the Arena di Verona is one of those "pinch me, I could die" moments. It's an emotional experience. The concert opened with the Italian national anthem, and I had tears running down my face. Sitting in that arena, watching the sunset, listening to the Italian anthem... I'll never forget it.

It's also a great area for a summer vacation - post in the travel thread and I'll give you an itinerary. Or I'll come meet you both there and do it again.

Oh wow - that sounds amazing. That sounds like a plan and will do. I'm sitting in my late mother's chair at the moment and thinking about how much she loved Italy.

I think the Arena may not be the right venue for the closing ceremony.
