2026 Olys Gala - In This Sheet / Time To Say Good Bi(sexual Boards)

They always do this. They do top X and then they invite people they feel like inviting from the rest. They don't do it by placement after the top X. So the reason they invited Petrosian was that they felt like it and thought it would be a good idea.
It used to be top 5 and home skaters, but they switched to the current format years ago. Expecting something else is like expecting 6.0 marking, and if they'd only invite top 5 Niina wouldn't get to murder as many people

I haven't watched many galas recently so I'd never seen Shaidorov's Kung Fu Panda program. It was fun and I enjoyed it. It is true that gimmicky programs can get old pretty quickly though, but sometimes the skaters get asked to do them by the organisers - seem to remember Javier Fernandez saying he kept getting asked to do his Super-Javi program in exhibitions.

I think I've only seen Chock/Bates' sheet program once before but still never needed to see it again.
Pair girls ARE built different.
I think they have some sort of special gene that makes them think pairs moves are a good idea.
Expecting something else is like expecting 6.0 marking,
Well, some people still do seem to expect that...:shuffle:

I usually don’t watch galas, but I just watched Ilia and wonder why he doesn’t use step sequences like this in his competition skates. He could tweak them to get the levels. The guy can move.

I watched the gala, but I admit I only really enjoyed Ilia, Amber and Haein Lee (well and Petrokiinas murderous adventure was sort of funny too). Everything else was either too snoozy or too gimmicky for my taste. Alysa was ok, but I didn't like the song.

Glad she was able to laugh about falling on her butt!
The laughter didn't seem to go to her eyes, though (after she fell on her closing pose).

I hope she is well treated and goes on to do well.

Honestly, her FS here was almost exactly like Scherbakova's FS in 2021 Worlds. Fall on opening quad, then nail 7 triples.

The difference here is that the field was much more competitive. But she did achieve the highest Base Value.
Peacock is getting rid of stuff so fast. Did you guys like Amber? Should I rewind …how far back?

It looks like they've put a few vids back up. Or maybe those are from Nationals?

There really isn't anything to understand. They invited the top 3 in each discipline, they invited the home country athletes, they invite skaters that they think will be entertaining from different areas of the world. They only had the athletes still in Milan to pick from so probably Z/K had already gone home.

Z/K were staying until after the closing ceremony. They said they didn't get an invite.

I watched it all on replay here. At least I could zip through the replays of the programs. The commentators were very very annoying.

Enjoyed it very much. Highlights were the Panda (who doesn't love a fart joke), Ilia (he killed that), Alysa (loved her dress - very her), all the Japanese skaters exhibitions (yes all of them), Nina (my favourite Chicago number) and the Italian team number (agree with someone who said that this should be part of the team event).

I found a few of the ice dance numbers a bit meh and disappointed the US team didn't do something more choreographed. Just turning up in tracksuits :blah:

I felt really sorry for Adeliia. She skated very well and is very musical. Before the exhibition they showed all the skaters arriving. She arrived on her own. But you could see at the end when everyone is standing around she was too the side and looked a bit lost. I think just because all the other skaters have friendships with each other and not being part of the rest of the skating world is isolating. It is awful that she has been used as a pawn for f****** Russian skating.

For anyone wanting to watch the Exhibition Gala, it seems to be available on YouTube now (thanks to Olympics & Olympics Figure Skating) and non-geoblocked (at least in Canada):

It's blocked in the U.S.

Liza T. still seems very connected with all the skaters from all the world and she was in Milano too, but the one photo she posted with Adelia (over the boards) sort of looked as if they barely know each other too.

I don't think Gummenik is as isolated (I think Liza and him were in California for training), so it might be more of an Eteris group (and age) thing.

I have seen lots of photos with Gummenik with many of the athletes. He looked like he was enjoying himself and making friends.

Adelia didn't stay in the village. She was with her mom in an apartment close to the rink.

Kurt said on Canadian broadcast that the USA team did his Stars on Ice choreo from last year and USA put it together in about five minutes, yeah.

That makes sense. The Italian team probably knew in advance of the Olympics that they would skate as a team in the gala regardless of their outcome and someone clearly choreographed their piece. Maybe it was known that whoever won the team event would skate as a team as well, but it probably wouldn't have been worth preparing a new piece just for this performance when they didn't even know if they'd be skating it.
