2026 Olympics Day Ten General Thread

I don't know where to put this , so might as well do it here: the IOC sees nothing wrong with commemorating the 1936 Olympics

When asked by The Athletic if the T-shirt, which is listed as “out of stock”, had sold out or been withdrawn from sale, an IOC spokesperson said it was the former.

“While we of course acknowledge the historical issues of ‘Nazi propaganda’ related to the Berlin 1936 Olympic Games, we must also remember that the Games in Berlin saw 4,483 athletes from 49 countries compete in 149 medal events,” they explained.
Priorities!

Would love to know how many stages it went through and nobody piped up to say it might be a bad idea.

Yeah, it's hard keeping track of all the threads... I didn't think of it as a social media story.

Anyway, the quote in the NYT/Athletic article really is something else.

They were talking about the great funding gap in the 2 man bobsled between what countries like Germany spends on their program and virtually everybody else even Canada. The amount of their own money some athletes have to spend in order train and compete to achieve their dream is enormous.

Xandra Velzeboer 🇳🇱 wins gold in the 1000m women’s short track. The Dutch are having a great Games in ST so far!

Watching the short track replay and have to resist the temptation to check the results. LOL
