Pretty sure the top ranked ones have to go.Nice that the A-listers are all going.
Yup - in the Announcement - starting on pg 7Nice that the A-listers are all going. Guess it's good prize money. Is it public what the prize money is?
a) Prize Money – Appearance Fee
i) Prize Money
The organizing ISU Member (JSF) will make available the Global Prize Money amount (that is secured through the ISU agreements) for the ISU World Team Trophy of: US$ 1’000’000 to the Skaters/Couples of the awarded teams. All prize money in favor of the Skaters/Couples will be paid via bank transfer by the organizing ISU Member (JSF) to the ISU Members of the Skaters/Couples of the awarded teams immediately after the ISU World Team Trophy based on the following scale:
1st placed team: US$ 200’000
2nd placed team: US$ 170’000
3rd placed team: US$ 160’000
4th placed team: US$ 150’000
5th placed team: US$ 140’000
6th placed team: US$ 130’000.
ii) Appearance Fees
Competitors from the Qualified Teams for the ISU World Team Trophy having ranked either in the top 3 of the preceding ISU World Figure Skating Championships and/or being ranked in the ISU Seasonal World Ranking (status after the preceding ISU World Figure Skating Championships) in the top 3 positions, will receive the following Appearance Fees:
Ranked 1st: US$ 30’000
Ranked 2nd: US$ 20’000
Ranked 3rd: US$ 10’000
In case Competitors are ranked among the top 3 in both, the preceding ISU World Championships and in the ISU Seasonal World Ranking, then the better ranking among the two options applies. For example, a World Champion who in the ISU Seasonal World Ranking is ranked second, would receive an Appearance Fee of US$ 30’000, hence the two options are not cumulative. Consequently, the maximum Appearance Fees for each Event amounts to US$ 480’000, namely the maximum for four disciplines and the hypothetical case that all ISU World Figure Skating Championships medalists and World Ranking top 3 positions are all different.
The payment of the Appearance Fee is subject to the concerned Competitors completing the two segmentsduring the ISU World Team Trophy. If the concerned Competitors compete only in one segment, then the applicable Appearance Fee shall be reduced by 50%.
This will certainly be their last one, and many skaters not named Scott Moir seem to really enjoy it. Not surprised.Really C/B couldn't have given their spot to C/P how many times have they done WTT? And i don't want to hear that the top skaters have to go plenty of times in the past the number 1 Pairs or Ice dance teams didn't go to WTT.
LOL - they're on their 5th, as is Jason Brown & Guignard/FabbriReally C/B couldn't have given their spot to C/P how many times have they done WTT? And i don't want to hear that the top skaters have to go plenty of times in the past the number 1 Pairs or Ice dance teams didn't go to WTT.
Didn't Scott say the WWT was corny when he didn't know he could be heard? That was a classic when i watched it on the long gone but missed Icenetwork. This will certainly be their last one, and many skaters not named Scott Moir seem to really enjoy it. Not surprised.
"Oh my God I hate this event", I think.Didn't Scott say the WWT was corny when he didn't know he could be heard? That was a classic when i watched it on the long gone but missed Icenetwork.![]()
Then Meagan and Eric were all "We LOVE this event!" in their next kiss and cry."Oh my God I hate this event", I think.![]()
Why didn't Shoma go in 2023? I forget.Pretty sure the top ranked ones have to go.
With everything so expensive, I’d be shocked if a first in line person/team chose not to go unless they are injured. And there’s $$$ in Japan for those who can squeeze in a few shows before joining SOI in mid May.Really C/B couldn't have given their spot to C/P how many times have they done WTT? And i don't want to hear that the top skaters have to go plenty of times in the past the number 1 Pairs or Ice dance teams didn't go to WTT.
It's Kevin's 5th time, too. 17, 19, 21, 23, and 2025.LOL - they're on their 5th, as is Jason Brown & Guignard/Fabbri
WTT Participation -
Brown - 5 - 2015, 2017, 2021, 2023 & 2025
Chock/Bates - 2013, 2015, 2017, 2023 & 2025
Guignard/Fabbri - 4 - 2019, 2021, 2023 & 2025
C/B, Ilia, Amber and Jason are in Japan for SOI (next 2 weekends) so WTT is pretty convenient for them. With everything so expensive, I’d be shocked if a first in line person/team chose not to go unless they are injured. And there’s $$$ in Japan for those who can squeeze in a few shows before joining SOI in mid May.
It was hilarious the skating forums exploded when he said that."Oh my God I hate this event", I think.![]()
I think you have confused Scott Moir with Nancy Kerrigan.Didn't Scott say the WWT was corny when he didn't know he could be heard? That was a classic when i watched it on the long gone but missed Icenetwork.![]()
Virtue and Moir passed in 2017? They must really hate the event to turn down all that![]()
Moir, not Hamilton.I think you have confused Scott Hamilton with Nancy Kerrigan.![]()
Moir, not Hamilton.![]()
That's right--I forgot they both skipped it in 2013.In 2013, neither Davis/White nor Virtue/Moir participated.
I don't remember whether either team ever made any public statement, but I think it is a safe assumption that both teams were very focused on 2014 Olympics and preferred not to prolong the 2012-13 season by competing at WTT.
(IIRC, 2023 was the first year of WTT appearance fees, so top-ranked skaters who opted out in earlier years were giving up "only" prize money.)
He had an ankle injury. Why didn't Shoma go in 2023? I forget.
Kaetlyn also didn't go that year.Virtue and Moir passed in 2017? They must really hate the event to turn down all that![]()
