2025 Grand Prix Assignments

I’ve heard from someone who has seen the actual ISU lists that Ghilardi and Ambrosini are the first listed alternates, but of course this is unofficial.
That would make sense since BecGuar didn't compete last season. The GP Announcement is rather vague about whether or not skaters/teams utilizing the Comeback or Returning Couple clauses who only get 1 assignment are included on the GP Alternates list.

Damn. I like Bec/Guar but I’m fond of the Ruzbeks. CoC is still months away so serious injury or a split, I guess. :(
I'd guess serious injury is more likely than a split, but only time will tell. Their 2nd GP is SkAm, so they have plenty of time to get healed.

I still have always been a bit confused the past few months by Loena scored two GP events when she was off the scene last season.. did that early Asian competition qualify her that she competed in last year? And why the European champions of BecGuar got nothing

No, it did not. Essentially, it was treated as a non-event since it isn't eligible for either SB or WS because it's an invitational comp. Basically she was classified as a "Comeback Skater" and BecGuar were classified as a "Return Couple" from their 2024 Worlds results and their participation in Shanghai Trophy was ignored.

Another twist - although alternate list does (or did at one point) have G/A first in line, expect the open CoC spot to go to Beccari and Guarise after all.

Maybe there was some pointing out of illogical flow between one instance to another, not that the ISU hasn't ever had that problem before. Nothing is easy. Nothing is worded clearly. :wall:

Good. BecGuar should have been at the top of the Alternates List based upon the wording of the Return Skater/Couple section of the GP Announcement. I swear, I don't think they have anyone who actually reads the effing GP Announcement when creating the Alternates List. Last season they had junior age-eligible skaters on the Women's Alternate List for half the GP season.

Beccari & Guarise are now official on the grid for Cup of China.
Good! That officially confirms they are on the Alternates List and it actually now looks like this:

So B/G will get a second GP assignement before the pairs that have better world standing and better SB? I don't get it.

You do realize that BecGuar's 23-24 SB of 199.19 is nearly 7 points better than GhiAmbro's 24-25 SB of 192.47, right? GhiAmbro & the other teams behind BecGuar have a better WS because they weren't injured and were able to compete last season.

We can debate all day long the fairness of the Comeback Skater/Team and the Return Skater/Couple clauses in the GP Announcement, but the ISU & GP Host Commission have chosen to not penalize skaters/teams who have to sit out for a season due to injury/other reasons & aren't able to use the GP spots they earned the previous season (Kagiyama & Higuchi in 2023-24; Grassl in 2024-25; Hendrickx, You & Beccari/Guarise in 2025-26). They merely get put into the GP Selection Pool for the initial assignments based upon their most recent season's result & placed on the Alternates List based upon their most recent season's SB score.

Wang/Zhu are still injured.
Sui/Han may not ready for competition yet.

The rest CoC host picks are
Ice Dance: Wang & Liu
Woman: Ruiyang Zhang
Man: Zhiming Peng
There are 2 TBD spots for both the Women & Pairs on the GP lists. So, are those spots being thrown back into the pool?

Oh sorry my bad, Xiangyi An is also the host pick for woman.
But for pairs, not sure what CFSA will do...

i feel like women are between nini, wandi, and hongyi. pairs, they may give one back
It wouldn't surprise me if they wait until after the first couple of Pairs Challenger events before throwing it back because putting it back in the pool right now would mean they have 3 Italian teams and I could see them wanting to see if anyone can move up the Alternates list.
