Even were he to be back on the Nationals podium, by not competing this Fall and and not being a prior Olympic medalist, he doesn’t meet the criteria for a discretionary pick and were he to partition, it should be rejected; however, 2/3 of the Selection Committee could tie themselves in knots if the GP results are underwhelming/not definitive, and the Nationals results are the same or an anomaly.

Aren't the top 5 at nationals automatically included in the selection pool?

I don't think Camden has a chance of being chosen, but I'm not sure I'm understanding something here.

The pool is the Top 5 in the BOW calculation, Top 5 at Nats 26, Top 10 WC 2025, past Olympic medalists (same discipline), Top 24 season WR, + those added based on discretionary selection criteria by the selection committee.

So @Theatregirl1122 is correct. Camden would automatically be in the pool if he medaled at 2026 Nationals. Only a good result at Nationals probably would not be enough to be selected, but it would still put him in the pool without a petition or discretionary pick.

Putting aside the discussion over who gets into the pool v. who is selected, I think the chances of Camden being one of the three men named to the team in Milano are near-zilch barring catastrophe to others. His record is too weak to be named to the team even with a standout performance and silver (or even freak gold) medal at Nationals. His only realistic shot hinged on excellent fall / Grand Prix performances that backed up his recent once-a-year good performances.
