It's the qualifying event for nationals. A few of the top teams have byes.

They definitely would have a bye. I think everyone in the event will qualify for nationals given there should be 15 spots and there are 12 competitors + G/P, L/L, F/A. I assume they're competing because they want more experience or feedback or something.
