2025-26 US Pairs Discussion - Milano-Bound By Way of Beijing & St. Louis

And I really don't understand lifting EfiMit up as the great savior of US pairs skating this cycle. They're good, but it would take a bloody miracle for Alisa Efimova to stand up & fully rotate all her triples in any given competition. Truth is, EfiMit are on par with ChanHowe who are on par with KamO.
unfortunately, I absolutely agree

Imho, in my observation, the only thing Audrey is lucking is her self- confidence. Her lack of self confidence actually has developed to the level of performance anxiety, and it is not so easy to get rid of performance anxiety unless a good support system.
Imho, Shin/Nagy have all potential to be an exceptional pair IF Audrey can open up and stand above her performance anxiety. I do not know anything, no insider knowledge at all; so it is only my observation watching their performances.

I don't disagree with this at all - and I blame the USFS for giving them major assignments before they were truly ready to be competitive on the senior international level. There was no good reason to send them to 4CCs last year when she didn't have a 3tw that was anywhere close to competition-ready. Choosing to rely on a Champs Camp simulated competition to determine a major assignment like the Olympic qualifying event also isn't helpful to overcoming any performance anxiety she has now developed as a result of the enormous pressure she's being put under to produce results right now. It really feels like the USFS broke them before they were even off the assembly line.

And just what is the track record of Chan, Kam and Liu? Maybe USFS pushes Shin/Nagy because Audrey can at least land reliable triples thanks to her singles experience.

I think this is the general idea behind the S/N support. But the actual fact of the matter is that Audrey has had quite a few jump falls since turning to pairs. And one of the reasons she switched was because of underrotation problems in singles. 🤷‍♀️

What I do find exciting about Audrey/Balazs is they're both very strong performers. This was always true of Audrey in singles, and we're seeing it increasingly from Balazs too. When they get to the point of being able to really perform together and with each other, instead of side by side, it could get really good. There are not so many internationally competitive pairs where both partners have really strong presentation skills. P.S. Their twist is also improving a lot.

L/B looked pretty good there. S/N looked good to me, but they were getting some neg GOE.
Agreed. ShiNagy deserved the negative GOE they received for their spins. The stream glitched during their twist so I can't comment one way or the other about whether or not it deserved negative GOE.

Going forward, I am just going with K/O and E/M. When they are on, those teams are our best. Just have to have hope for clean skates.

for what, the grand prix final?
Just in general. But, here's the thing... Both Chan/Howe and McBeath/Parkman have proven themselves to be in that same echelon as Efimova/Mitrofanov and Kam/O'Shea. You don't score nearly 64 points with the type of mistakes Chan/Howe made last night unless the international judges think, when clean and on, you're top-notch quality.

If it's GPF EFMit and KOShea are the hopes. But it looks like Ef/Mit will end up 4th at Japan which will not get them into the GPF. Unless by a miracle they skate to perfection in Finland. And I would think KOShea are battling SuiHan and the Hungarians for the 6th spot.

If Sui/Han win tonight then that's that. Even if they finish 2nd they are in good shape (as long as it's not the Hungarians winning) - their first event total was better than K/O as it is.

Congratulations to Chelsea and Ryan winning ice challenge in Austria, that is amazing. And their free program keeps inching higher and higher this season…

They edged out Audrey and Balasz for the title yet and we all know they got skate America, sigh. I’m not sure if Chelsea and Ryan can get the federations attention no matter the scores just simply because they’re new this year.

Made the adjustment.

When did Chelsea and Ryan start training together?

that is, if USFS decides to replace them?
Gosh, Beccari Guarise still haven't learned how to withdraw in time so that other pairs can replace them.

The USFS is within the 7 day window, so you're correct that they don't have to replace them, but I'd be surprised if they don't. Even if AkoRakh can't accept the short-notice invitation, then I'd expect VLDigs to accept and fly in from Dundee.

Any link for the FS of L/B or S/N available? I'm not great at finding very new videos. Thanks!

This was the link to the livestream from earlier - not sure if it's still available.
