Faizan Zaki's spirit of friendship and empathy yesterday was remarkable, as seen in the tweeted video clip below.
Aryan Khedkar was one of my favorites among last year's finalists, but he misspelled a word yesterday (ending up in a tie for ninth place this year). :(
As thirteen-year-old Aryan was leaving the stage, Faizan sprinted over from the opposite side to give him a prolonged hug. A heart-melting moment. ?

Sad that it's just streaming and there is no tv coverage. Those kids are so impressive and I liked seeing them get the attention.

I record it and then watch when I can skip everything but the spelling (takes less than 30 minutes to watch a 2 hr. program). I still have recordings going back to Euonym and before. I loved it when it was that mesmerizing word after word after word. I miss it. Just like figure skating - money has messed it up.

My niece was in our state’s spelling bee when Vanya was competing. She had no chance—I don’t thing any of them had much of a chance. They were great kids but Vanya was special. Good to see she still has her joy…

Isn’t this supposed to be over in 7 minutes? They have 4 spellers still.
