It is now old news, but National Winter Sports Champioships (Each prefecture fields a team) was held in Tomakomai, hokkaido on 27-31 January.
Evidently, the national budget allocation to each prefecture depends on how well they do in this competition, so each prefecture wants the best skaters to compete for them. This was why Hyogo prefecture womens team, last season,were composed of the World Champion and GPF/4CC Champion, Kaori and Mai. This year only Kaori competed, since 4CC and Youth Olympics representatives were not here.

Kao won but it was not clean skate. Tokyo won based on tie breaker, Aichi was second.
