Who will place top 6 to gain OLY spots? I will leave Tursynbaeva out for now but assume she would get a spot if she competed...

I've posted my predictions on other threads in other boards:

Yes. Tursy in good shape wins this and essentially sends herself on behalf of KAZ to the Olympics. I would kill for some current info on her

Has Roberta Rodeghiero retired? I think she is over 30, but she has been a pretty steady competitor for ITA post-Kostner.

Who are Serna and Mazzara? Never heard of them before. Are they able competitors? PBs?

Setting Tursy aside, I chose US competitor, Kurakova, Safonova, Paganini, FRA competitor (IF it is Meite healthy; IDK the skills of the other 2), and Leung. I think FRA and Leung are in bigger jeopardy if Tursy competes.

It seems based on the PBs of these skaters, one would need a score around 175 to be comfortable and make it to Beijing (Around 180 if Tursy competes).

A good sub-question is - Which US lady: On a good day, all the US ladies here can get 180. I personally think the best choice is Bell. She rotates and won't need difficult combos to get the job done here. Liu needs to be monitored for URs right now. I generally have faith in her, but will she have come back enough by September? I really don't know if Amber Glenn is a solid choice. She can still be splat-arific even if her 2021 Nationals performances and 2020 4CCs were quite good.

Rodeghiero? ? she’s like 6th-best in Italy on a good day. They have a set of decent skaters ahead of her, unlucky for Gutmann to have missed the LP.

Aww, c'mon. She has made it to the LP at Worlds, hasn't she? Though, I didn't realize she has crashed lately!

Lea Serna and Maia Mazzara both competed at 2020 Europeans.
Serna's PB is 166.02 and Mazzara's is 170.06.
And both are listed for World Team Trophy so have their first & last opportunity of the season for an ISU PB.

Alessia Tornaghi went from having ALL the 2020 assignments for Italy (Youth Olympics, Europeans, Junior Worlds and cancelled Worlds) to nothing this season. ETA: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ating-news-updates.104247/page-5#post-5956816

Tursynbaeva is performing on the ice again: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...eer-support-thread.105948/page-2#post-5986380

Wow. If she is performing her programs cleanly, she is going to matter. She is more than capable of winning Nebelhorn.

For me is: USA, POL, GEO, SUI and if Tursy returns she gets a spot for KAZ, the last could be disputed between TPE, HUN, CYP and FRA

I will be rooting for Emmy Ma (Taiwan) and Kailani Craine (Australia) who missed the cut to the free skate at Worlds last month by a small margin. Alas without a 3/3 and judges' support on PCS, plus questionable rotations on the solo triples, the road is not easy for either of them.

Sadly, I think the odds are kind of stacked against Grm and Craine because the scoring potential of Tursy, US lady, Kurakova, Safonova and Paganini are like at least 20+ points higher and beyond. Maybe a bigger opening for that last slot especially if Mae is still suffering injury next Fall. Then, it could come down to French lady, Leung, and skaters like Craine and Grm. I would give the edge to Craine.

Does the ISU want to have less skaters at the Olympics then they do a worlds?

IIRC Christy Leung hasn't competed for some time now, and withdrew from 2021 Worlds last minute. I wonder how her form has been / will be.

If Emmy Ma does a 3/2 and clean solo triple in the short and say 5 triples and 2 2axels in the free without calls I think she might pull it off though. She narrowly missed the free at Worlds with some uncharacteristic errors but there is no qualifying after the short at Nebelhorn so hopefully she can rebound with higher PCS in the free to snatch one of the last spots. She is definitely not a frontrunner though and probably need some top contenders there to make a mistake or two.

Bigger change here than for the men.

Tursy out means no spot for KAZ, and a more open competition between Liu, Safonova, and Kurakova. All can score over 200 internationally, and all are probably equally consistent / inconsistent. I would place Paganini #4. She wasn't great at Worlds but is capable of scores 20 points higher than those further back. Leung is also not competing, so I think Mazzara has a great shot at qualifying FRA, and the last spot is pretty open among a few competitors like Craine and ITA skater.

I would love for Kurakova to make it, she’s a joy to watch, but the judges never show much love for her:(

GRM ALL THE WAY!
