2020 Skate Canada Challenge Nov. 27-Dec. 1, 2019, Edmonton, AB

Thankfully the feed is fine for me.

Tobin opens with a good 2axel3toe but a fall on a 3flip. Nice 3loop. She's getting good height on the jumps today. 3sal turn 2toe. 3toe single toe hunched over. 3sal splat, probably UR. 93.14 FS 143.19.

Btw the cut off to nationals is based on four byes (Dalemen, Cotop, Pineault, and Mallet) and assuming Chartrand is not competing.

Bulawka - very nice 3toe 2toe 2loop to open. 2loop. 2axel 2toe. 3toe near fall. 3sal single toe (another 2toe wouldn't have counted anyway). 3sal hangs on. Another 2axel. I think Long's lead is still safe? 95.69 FS 146.62

Schizas fell on her opening triple flip but landed everything else more or less including a nice 2axel 2loop at the end which was a surprise. She's a lovely skater and she looks happy. She's definitely a contender for the jr world team. 104.04! 157.00.

Emma Bulawka skated (jumped in) her FP a lot better at BC/YK Sectionals... really great song choice for her expressiveness!

Madeline Schizas is one of my favorite discoveries this year. :)
ETA: @Catherine M, I'm just glad she didn't skate to Disturbed's cover. ;)

Question - I am noticing a trend of doing a drag into spins in singles and pairs at this competition. Is that one of the enhancement point for levels?

Dawson - 3lutz (! or e) with a step out. 2axel - normally does a 3toe after it. 3sal2 toe. 2axel2toe turn out. 3flip near fall. 3sal fall oops. 3toe fall. Wait was one of her jumps a 3loop? I love the entry to her second last spin. She looks exhausted and is shaking her head. Now a smile. I think I misidentified some jumps in there sorry. 85.94 FS 138.41

Awww Decelles is one of my favourite skaters so that was hard to watch. 3lutz2toe to open was a little tight but landed. Fell on a 3flip and her second 3lutz but managed a nice 3sal later and a 3toe. Well at least she'll be back at nationals. 90.82 FS 148.64

A lovely program from Cotop. Only doing 3toe and 3sal for now. She had a double flip at the beginning. I wonder what tech she'll be able to bring at nationals. 96.20 FS 152.94

Schumacher OMG three jumping passes three splats! Now a pop. She's handing Long a spot in the final flight for nationals. Another pop OMG will she even qualify?! Finally landed something I think a 3sal 2toe. Luckily she only needs about 68 points to qualify. Wow that was hard to watch. 77.41 FX 134.04

I only managed to see the last 3 skaters; very grateful for all the pbp!

Cotop still doesn't have most of her triple jumps back, but her program really is beautiful.

I'm looking forward to watching Schizas once the video replay is available - big congrats to her for her win here! :cheer2:

Although I didn't make it to Edmonton, it is competitions like this that remind me of why I love skating. It takes such amazing courage to get out there and put your skills and heart on the line. At this domestic level no one is too experienced at masking their emotions - so you truly see the joy of triumph and agony of defeat and they will be stronger people for all of it. Huge kudos to volunteers, coaches, and parents who make it all possible.

Hoping Cotop stays healthy because she is one of the most well-rounded skaters we have.
