Starting a new thread for visibility (eta: and copied out all the initial selections for posterity):

ISU GP page: https://isu.org/figure-skating/events/grand-prix-of-figure-skating

Due to the current situation, the usual selection criteria do not apply. The competitors will be invited according to the following principles: The top 6 Skaters/Couples from the ISU Grand Prix List are given priority to be selected for a Grand Prix event provided they reside/train in one of the Grand Prix Member countries, or have no travel restrictions to travel to a Grand Prix Member country in the nearby area. The top 7-12 Skaters (for Ladies and Men), Top 7-10 Couples (for Pair Skating and Ice Dance) from the Grand Prix List are given 2nd priority to be selected for a Grand Prix. The top 24 Season’s best and World Standings Skaters/Couples for season 2019/20, not included in the above will have 3rd priority for selection. The remaining entries will be from Skaters/Couples in the top 75 season’s best list from 2019/20 and up to two Skaters/Couples from the Organizing Grand Prix Member (off list). In case there are no available Skaters/Couples left in the top 75, the Organizing Grand Prix Member may invite any other Skater training in the Organizing Grand Prix Member’s country.
The Grand Prix List was composed in the following ranking order: the top 6 Skaters as entered for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2020 (listed in Season’s best order, in replacement of the usual World Figure Skating Championships results); top 7 to 12 Skaters as entered for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2020 (listed in Season’s best order - 7 to 10 for Pair Skating and Ice Dance); “Come-back” Skaters/Couples; top 24 Skaters in the World Standings for 2019/20; top 24 Skaters in the Season’s best list for 2019/20; medalists from the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020 and winners of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2019/20; returning “split Couples” and top 25 to 75 in the Season’s best list for 2019/20.

I’m disappointed Canada isn’t having more women compete. I was pulling for Michelle Long.
The US included a lot of skaters - good for them!

It is rather curious, isn’t it? Looking at who got spots in men, pairs and dance, Skate Canada’s criteria seemed pretty open.

Are the Lithuanians back in Oberstdorf?
I thought they are in MTL now.

If one of the US pairs can’t win SkAm even though Morozov had YNW, that will be the most US pairs thing ever.

IdF is kind of the most intriguing event overall because it’s the only one I’d call truly international. Though I feel for the OES ladies that Kihira decided to loiter around Europe to stomp them, it’d otherwise be their best/only shot at a Grand Prix gold.

IDF looks pretty exciting, and all the nationals matchups will be fun. China looks dead, as we guessed.

The dance is interesting as so many teams train in Canada that some Gadbois teams are going to their home country: P/C, L/LG, C/B (wouldn’t be surprised if they withdrew), H/D, H/B.

Trankov said today T/M are staying in Russia and going to skip the GP (and avoid flying back again) to focus on doing two Russian Cup events.

I don’t think they’ve been able to travel to Canada yet.

And honestly, that is a disgusting amount of prize money to be attached to a bunch of parochial showcases when every cent of it has been stripped from the competitions with full international judging panels, but I guess the ISU has to make sure that them that haves, gets, and gets most of what’s to be got, no matter what. If the big names won’t compete without some sort of reward, just give every skater who turns up a nominal appearance fee - $500 for two days’ work would be fine - and tell them all to like it or lump it.

I also love that Satoko is leaving the rest of Japan, sans Rika, to fight things out and is off to snag herself Skate Canada gold. :D (Not to jinx her, but in that field, I'd say her chances are pretty darn good.)

I wonder why Ting Cui didn't get assigned to Skate America, is she not ready? She was landing triples on her instastory this past summer and she's posted videos of her working on choreography with Colin McManus.

Japan ends up having the best athlete distribution of any of the big feds, as apart from the NHK events they’re favoured at both singles events at IdF and SCI’s ladies event; and their pair team will probably win a medal at SCI too.

I honestly don't understand why H/D, H/B, and C/B are asked to go to the US and P/C and L/LG are asked to go to France. Not sure if it's their federations fault or if Skate Canada didn't want to invite them (I want to believe ISU didn't limit the number of participants at each event), but either way, to make them travel during these times is a questionable move at best.
ETA: seems like ISU did limit it to 10 entries, still, you'd think exceptions would be made during the biggest global crises to happen in the last century...

So for SA, gracie and pooja are the 2 off list skaters with no sb score. Kate, Isabelle, Izzo, Audrey all got in top 75 sb. No idea how Ting is doing. I'd imagine 1st alternate would be her (in top 75) or Finley Hawk (no sb), maybe Paige or Sierra.

I would imagine it’s all of the above: None of the teams wanted to turn SCI into a mini-Worlds, and the USFS and FFSG wanted their headliners for the home events.

I’m guessing it’s related to how there are so many dance teams training in Canada. I hope they manage it safely.

I wonder if Hanna Harrell fits in anywhere here. She's training again, but she was dealing with injury for so long.
