Junior level is more and more competitive....

Not going to be an easy National field for any new team to crack. Ten confirmed returning teams from Nationals right here. (At least one more likely to be competing). Plus two top-five teams from novices moving up. Lost a couple of the top novice teams; but that's a really nice retainment ratio for teams in Junior Dance.

Interesting. Here is my prediction for JGP assignments:

Greens - 2
Ian/Eliana - 2
Caleb/Emma - 2
Kolesnik/Nguen - 2
Luca/Isabella - 1
Alina/Allexander - 1
Koszuta/Joyselin - 1
Gart/Delcamp - 1
Elders - 1
Katarina/Howard - 1

What are the requirements for the placements to ensure US gets max number of entries for the next season?

@Lara111 Top 3 countries at Jr. Worlds.

Russia and Canada (if Lajoie/Lagha stay junior) are very strong candidates for two of the top 3 countries. With C/P moving up, I suspect there will be a massive push by USFS for the Greens.

ETA: other possible contender nations include France, Georgia, and to a lesser extent, Ukraine.

Article on Brazil's Isadora Williams (dated June 4) who plans to start her season at Chesapeake: http://www.brasilzerograu.com/2018/06/isadora-williams-novos-programas-saltos-pre-temporada.html
From the machine translation, her short program music is "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck "but with a more Brazilian rhythm, reminding Carnival" and her free skate music "will be a mix of songs from the malaguenha rhythm of singer Natalia Lafourcade." She also hopes to incorporate 3Lz+3T into her programs this season.

This year's JW will also determine entries for the Youth Olympics in 2020 I believe. If they do entries the same way as for 2016, to get two spots a country needs to medal at JW.

They can always send C/P to Junior World can they ??

Rumor is she's taking the year off!
Really? They're both still in Michigan and posted stories of them training together not too long ago.

The Greens had a great finish at their first junior worlds and could theoretically push for a medal. Seems bizarre that Lewis/Bye would be taking off a season unless they planned to retire or switch countries, but if they are for whatever reason, that only increases the fight for the other spots on the team. It'll be interesting to see the progress from Gropman/Somerville, Nguyen/Kolesnik, and Gunter/Wein especially, but I'm looking forward to Wolfkostin/Zhao's junior debut and the progress any other teams have made. Seeing the scores here will be an early indication of the rest of the season.

Its unlikely that C/P will return to junior worlds, the requirements are too different. But I think there's a strong chance that the other juniors will step up.

Good. Let's wait & see then. It's not that uncommon for teams to skip the Chesapeake Open and use more preparation time before competing. The Parsons and McNamara & Carpenter didn't compete at it two years ago. And the Greens and Carreira & Ponomarenko each did only one dance last year.

Are all 21 junior teams competing against each other, or are they splitting the competition into two groups like three years ago?

FYI, Jeffrey Chen, Kenan Slevira, and Payten Howland are all recently off ice partner search. I am curious if any of them will show up with a partner soon.

My thoughts exactly about L/B !unless they planned to retire or switch countries
Doesn't make sense to skip this year

Its unlikely that C/P will return to junior worlds ... USFSA need to protect 3 spots for next year and spot for JGP plus JR World for C/P would get them international points for the next year.

Well, Lewis/Bye were back on the ice shortly after junior worlds, and as I said have remained in Michigan and have been training in the gym together within at least the past couple weeks. I suppose a country switch is possible- the field is very deep, and if they looked at Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen's example and thought they would have better opportunities elsewhere, I wish them the best of luck and look forward to seeing them in the future. But I'd at least wait to see if they show up at Lake Placid before leaping to any conclusions.

USFSA will want to protect its spots, sure, but it's hard to say how competitive C/P would even be with programs they hadn't been competing with all season. And again, I think there's a very good chance that the remaining juniors will step up over the summer to keep our spots. Even without C/P, L/B and the Greens placements would have been enough to keep three spots, and, if I'm not mistaken, the full amount of JGP spots as well.

Per the JGP qualification thread on GS, this is correct.

Yes, either the Greens or Lewis & Bye's results at Junior Worlds would have been enough to earn 2 entries in 7 JGP events. It goes to the top three qualifying countries. And both the Greens and Lewis & Bye finished above all the non-U.S. ice dance teams outside of Russia & one team from Canada. The Greens and Lewis & Bye also ended the season with the highest season's best scores among all junior dance teams outside of Russia, Carreira & Ponomarenko, & Lajoie & Lagha. The Greens and Lewis & Bye have split results and placements for the past two seasons in juniors. (Carreira & Ponomarenko have had split placements with the Greens over the past two seasons as well).

Some results sheets (whichever ones the social media volunteer has time to post, she will do the best she can) are being posted on the competition FB and IG:

https://www.facebook.com/ChesapeakeOpenFSC
https://www.instagram.com/chesapeakeopen

There is one volunteer managing social media. She is a relative of a board member and has traveled from out of town and taken time off from her job to volunteer. She works in social media but has never been a skater herself. Please be patient and understanding. All results (inc IJS protocols) will be posted on the Baltimore FSC website by July 1.

So we're going to start the junior ice dance season off with an upset for third place in the SD. . .

Again, the numbers in the photo are blurry; therefore, definitely take these scores with a grain of salt. I tried! The order is correct, however.

1. 56.40 Green & Green
2. 52.06 Gropman & Somerville
3. 47.86 Brown & Brown
4. 47.24 Elder & Elder
5. 46.42 Gunter & Wein
6. 45.04 Wolfkostin & Zhao
7. 42.54 Haines & Koszuta
8. 41.58 Efimova & Petrov
9. 41.20 Weatherby & Bogomol
10. Zhao & Niva
11. Rose & Michel
12. Purnell & Purnell
13. Chen & Jin
14. Melton & O'Donnell
15. Krauskopft & Walker

I thought they might split the junior dancers into 2 groups because there were 21 teams signed up, but there are more than half listed here so I'm thinking this is everyone who competed the SD and that Nguyen & Kolesnik, DelCamp & Gart, Amoia & Becker, Petterson & Carey, Brykalova & Brykalov, and Udell & Udell withdrew from the SD.

These are the scores I saw, when it was extra blurry I went through and added up the TES & PCS just to be sure. Still probably some errors but it's better than not having them at all!

2. Gropman/Somerville - 52.08
3. Brown/Brown - 47.86
4. Elder/Elder - 47.24
5. Gunter/Wein - 46.42
6. Wolfkostin/Zhao - 45.04
7. Haines/Koszuta - 42.56
8. Efimova/ Petrov - 41.68
9. Weatherby/Bogomol - 41.20
10. Zhao/Niva - 39.58
11. Rose/Michel - 38.06
12. Purnell/Purnell - 36.08
13. Chen/Jin - 35.76
14. Melton/O’Donnell - 35.84
15. Krauskopf/Walter - 32.38

I don't think all/most of those teams were entered in the SD to begin with (N/K and Brykalov(a) weren't). Not every team/skater enters both segments in club comps - they are separate events. For example, I believe Aldridge/Eaton are only entered in the SD and not the FD. It's still early in the season and not all skaters/teams have both programs ready.

I just checked the event list on Entryeeze - only 15 teams listed, so looks like everyone who entered competed.

ETA: And there are 15 teams entered in Junior FD, so some of the teams who competed today won't compete tomorrow.

Yes, that makes sense. I was just going by Sylvia's list at the top. (She specified several teams that were only planning to compete in one dance or the other so those were the ones I knew were planning to only compete one portion). But I didn't go back into the coaches' lists to see if any of the other "missing" teams were actually only signed up for one event.
