2026 Worlds Free Dance PBP - Whale, That's All Folks!

Talking about C/P's deductin on the lost pedal, do we count that as politiks too? :D

I didn't say the technical panel should compensate, just that the Brits have always been marked on the high side, so it's hard to wuz-rob them from me.

I would be more on board with the politks theory that pushes L/L and L/B with technically average teams (L/A, F/G) so Z/K could beat them.

But Z/K vs F/G? eh.
Forgot about C/P's deduction...that was tough.

I think it's a bit ridiculous and harsh, but it's clear cut. The petal was on the ice, which is indisputable evidence.

I'd really like to see tonight's lift side-by-side with every other one they've done this season. It's suspect to have something called in the last competition of the season, when the panel calling it represent your two closest rival teams (+ the third member of the panel, whose team you beat out controversially last season).

Maybe it's all legit and the video will confirm that the panel is eagle-eyed and spotted something different. Happy to eat my words if so.

Well, for me, after this past Olympic quad with the older teams refusing to retire it's felt like the discipline has really stagnated and all of the teams behind them were suffocated & inorganically held back. I feel like FBCiz staying around would have the same effect. I feel that way, actually, about most of the disciplines and would like to see some skaters take their laurels and good skates here or at the Olympics and just hang up their skates if they're closer to 35 than 30 in dance/pairs and closer to 30 than 20 in the singles disciplines.
Its not just dance. There have been virtually no pairs, men or women announcing retirements.

If Kaori's flutz wasn't called all season and then got called at worlds by an American caller, is it politiks or is it finally getting it right?

Hard to say.

As long as the rules are applied correctly I'm cool.

It’s a harsh call relative to it never being called before. Lewis definitely had more of an elbow bend when I saw him do the lift at GPdF. But his arm wasn’t so different here compared to Sheffield where he was also extending a lot from the get-go.

I wonder if maybe the real issue this time is Lilah rested on his head.

I now remember that Z/K also got a 2-point deductions at the GPF, though that didn't affect the outcome.

That was such a sweet, excited hug on the podium between Gil/Poir and Zing/Kol. Are they buddies or something?

I read, during the Olympics I believe, a quote from Vadym saying how G/P have been very welcoming to them this season as rookies and kind of helped/guided them at times. A friendly face they could count on of sorts. I am really paraphrasing here but that was the gist of it.

Mark Hanretty said this was an error they had gotten a penalty for previously, so not a one off at this event. His arm was extended too high for too long of a time apparently.

Which, if you recall, they disputed and said it was a very picky call and they had their own experts review it and they disagreed with it.

I pointed it out for those who think it's all politiks.

It could be politiks, it's ice dance after all; but it may be just luck of the draw based on the caller.

This isn’t what they said. They saw where it happened, found it a bit picky, and changed their programs to avoid it. They did not dispute it.

I found the panel here harsh for a lot of teams, so I’m not shocked fear/Gibson got that call. I commented to a friend in real time that his elbows were locked.

Also, the ISU post on ZingKols bronze is filled with terrible comments. I hope they don’t read social media and just live in the excitement of their bronze.

There was a live they did with someone and they most definitely said what I posted. I didn't put quotation marks because I am not giving an exact quote but I even posted at the time how ironic it was that at Finland when Piper and Guillaume were talking about the calling their response was very different compared to when it happened to them at GPF. I didn't make this up....

It’s interesting that Car/Pon were again second highest base value (and really they tied for first in the RD); says something about the change from +/-3 to +/-5 GOE.

Levels used to mean something. You don't even have to get rid of +/- 5 (I think that ship has sailed) but there's not enough of a gap between the base values at each level to negate GOE f*ckery by the judges.

No, the ends can't justify the means here. The tech panel can't go calling things to make up for the judges overscoring.

I suspect the review meeting will be verrrrry interesting here.

The referee is British.
The tech controller American.
The tech specialists Canadian (and Italian).

Would love to be a fly on the wall for this one. I wonder if there was disagreement, which was the reason for the delay.
Same Technical Specialist as GPdF, so she called that lift once before (no violation) and didn’t even mark it for review (at least in real time). So I wouldn’t necessarily put the conspiracy on the American controller adjudicating the call.

If the panel is harsh it will be the ice dance equivalent of Shin Armano, just is ok as long as it is consistent

The fact that she didn't call it then but called it now (when it directly benefited an American team) doesn't help my conspiracy theory.

I only travelled with my work computer, which is very locked down, and my hotel internet is putting me in Hungary for some reason so I'm having trouble getting videos.

Hoping Tony or someone beats me to it and saves me the trouble , but I need to watch video of these lifts when I'm home tomorrow.

The British judge was surprisingly restrained in scoring of F&G today. A little more national bias would've got F&G the medal, too.

Z&K didn't have a US judge, but they seemed to have a Cypriot judge working for them.

Ah yes. The judge who put LaLa in 14th with a score of 108

Someone did the work on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/FigureSkating/s/1tFrVJx6vO

Bottom line. Glad this season is over and hoping that for next season we have a new IDTC, crystal clear guidelines for level calls and most importantly no more copyright music issues that caused a bunch of teams to bring back old programs. Onwards and upwards !! :)
