I have been most amused to see people from Italy, Japan, and other countries raging away on Xitter that the placements are not based on total medals but only on golds.

Well congrats to Norway. I love the way they have their sports/activity programs set up in Norway and how inclusive they are and how they value participation. Yes, participation trophies can be very good indeed.
