I think it would be interesting to divide the men's field by Russian coach or non- Russian coach, and see if the stylistic differences show a pattern in results...

Nathan Chen is another skater who actually had very old-school Russian jump technique bc of his coach ...

Well, it's not as if it's helping them skate better. At what point do you decide to revisit the depressing dirges and go for something a bit more uplifting that might help you have a more successful competition? Better results would give them a far bigger platform to tell their story than mid-to-poor results where they're forgotten as soon as they're done skating.

I hope Gogolov keeps this consistency he seems to have found and wins Nationals every year. Although I guess if he skates like this he'll earn 2 spots soon enough

Of course it's clear that he's still lacking in many areas, but after such a long drought, what Canada needs right now is someone who can lay it down under pressure.

Spot on from Gogolev. Gorgeous quads, nothing to review. Just the tiniest issue on the 3Lo. Program slows at the end but still so much better than Gummenik. Happy to see him disappear from the leader chair.

Even from the beginning of the season, it looks like Gogolov has finally figured out managing his tall, long, thin build and is working on his artistry. Not my favorite skater, but I’m really pleased that he’s getting to be a finer skater. GREAT OLYS for him! Oh Canada!
