Russian figure skating news in 2024

These are the two I wish could be the Olympic Exceptions. Ridiculous that they threw away the application on S/B.
Did k/n do better than s/b’s fifth place at an Olympics? No one knows who k/n are! They have never ever been seen outside of Russia

Do I believe S/b could get fifth again? Maybe not but I wouldn’t send a team that didn’t even exist until 2 minutes ago.

Zhulin’s choreography for Stepanova/Bukin’s RD consists of too much arm flailing…above the head, to the left, to the right, and in front. Seriously, they should have been given 90’s Kylie Minogue like from the albums Rhythm of Love, Let’s Go Get It, and her self titled 1994 album. They hit the categories of cleared music rights, songs at 120 BPM, and upbeat 90s. Then put Stepanova in the 90’s black Versace dress with the gold clothespins and voilá.

Love K/N Prodigy and Massive Attack RD. Great choreography and 90’s vibes. Makes me think of the movie Hackers for some reason.
I have only one gripe with K/N: Krylova makes their choreography much too fussy; she needs to declutter just a smidge. As per S/B, Michael Jackson was where? Bukin cannot let loose; his job is to keep Stepanova on her feet. Her skating is disruptive. It's getting a tad lame.

Stepanova really needs to do pilates and yoga exercises to help with her flexibility. I find her very stiff.
Truth, she is wooden, and there is an awful lot of rear end showcasing in this FD. Sigh. This was a very underwheming competition. When I heard Tarasova over hyping them, I should have understood. It was an absolute waste of time to get up for this.

Final

1. Alexandra Stepanova - Ivan Bukin - 210.81

2. Vasilisa Kaganovskaya - Maxim Nekrasov - 204.54

3. Ekaterina Mironova - Evgeny Ustenko - 189.21

Didn’t Benoit choreograph their FD this season? Both programs this season are so much better than last year’s.

Stepanova’s FD dress is gorgeous, the program not so much.

Krylova still, could give the kids a little more breathing room and dial down the difficulty. Ice Dance is a marathon, not a sprint. Give them more room to improve and showcase their skating skills.

I cannot take them seriously, with Stepanova's hunching and flailing of arms it's just uninteresting at the moment.

Maria Zakharova is back after being out for a couple of years due to injury. For those of us who were Tsareva watchers during the Pogo era, she has the tongue of disgust just like her mother. She attempted 2 4T. She landed a clean one in the warm up and in her first outing finishing 2nd in the FS. She always had attitude as a junior and I'm glad to see her back on the ice.

And Maxim Marinin's son switched from ice dance to men's singles. How often does that happen? No quads, but he had a decent skate in a tough field. He looks like his dad.

 Boikova screws the opening SBS jump sequence, follows with a perfect 4S throw and then they do a cool crossing SBS jump to follow and the rest of the program is perfect. The reason I love pair skating.

Then disaster skate by Mish/Gal (double fall on the 2nd SBS jump and lift fail). Both are pissed leaving the ice.

I think being a pair skating fan is as difficult as being a pair skater.

In post skate interview they said that it was Stars Morozov’s idea. Apparently he suggested it once to V/T before the 2014 Olympic season, but Tatiana and Max decided not to take this risk (didn’t know how the judges would react, and they had a consistent triple toe already).
Kozlovskii also wanted to keep the old traditional variation, but they tried this crossing variation and everyone liked how it looked on the video, so they kept it in the program

The camera person really needs to pull back so those watching on TV can get the full effect, but this is a great FS program for them. I think when Mishina fell on the jump it startled both of them and Galliamov lost his concentration and fell and then the lift didn't go up which is usually a timing problem. She never falls and it seemed to throw them completely off their game unlike Boi/Koz because she falls on the SBS jumps somewhat frequently and it didn't impact that 4S in the slightest.
