The Dance Hall 12: Boston Tea Dance Party

Sadly, this would probably be impossible to skate to but I sure would love to see someone try 😈 https://youtu.be/FCjiWLsz-Uk?si=FG0pBFv2VkLXkRzx

    U.S. Men 2024-25 news & updates

I don’t think anyone besides Ilia is a lock, and it’s especially hard to guess how Jason will do next season. But I’m curious what your thinking is on Jimmy, because at least for now, he doesn’t strike me as super competitive. Yes he took bronze at two international competitions this year, but...

    The Skating Lesson

Of course. But the relatively few times gymnastics have been mentioned on TSL, it’s usually in the context of abuse, the parallels between the two sports, how they handle abuse, etc. Re opera: as a former singer, I’ve always thought there were a lot of parallels between competitive skating and...

    The Skating Lesson

I also miss Flutzes & Waxels as well as Ice Talk in its Jackie & Nick incarnation. Since all of the hosts were quite knowledgeable I usually enjoyed their analyses. That kind of analysis seems to be a bit lacking in some of the newer podcasts that have sprung up. Getting back to TSL, I do...

    The Skating Lesson

I don’t necessarily agree, but we all see things differently. I will say that I don’t watch This and That nearly as much as I used to because the format is so much less structured / focused on the competition and the competitors than it used to be when Jenny was on. So often these days the show...

    The Skating Lesson

Did Dave actually say somewhere that all future This and That vids will be on Patreon? Because he posted another Worlds recap on YouTube with Maya Bagriantseva within a day or so of pulling the first one. Random thought: I always find it funny when people criticize Dave for talking over...

Oh, do you skate? Regardless, if you’re going to whine, at least get your facts straight. He made the GPF twice.

ISU Statement on Russia's war against Ukraine - Participation in international competitions of Skaters and Officials from Russia and Belarus

I agree both that what Russia is doing to their own citizens & Ukraine is inexcusable and that the IOC’s “solution” is completely stupid. I just can’t help myself from trying to tear apart their reasoning. 😈

ISU Statement on Russia's war against Ukraine - Participation in international competitions of Skaters and Officials from Russia and Belarus

With respect to the US / Iraq, I’m curious: did Iraq or another country ask the IOC to ban the US, and if so, did the IOC consider it and refuse? Because if not, it’s just as irrelevant to whether Russia should be banned for invading Ukraine now as the fact that other countries currently in...

ISU Statement on Russia's war against Ukraine - Participation in international competitions of Skaters and Officials from Russia and Belarus

Ha - I’m actually not surprised about this. The IOC says the athlete can’t “actively support” the war. Leaving aside the fact they haven’t defined what that means and we don’t know how it would be enforced (sworn statement?), it suggests that any athlete who participates in an international...

    U.S. Women [#3]: Skating Clean

I didn’t check protocols for all of Karen’s competitions, but at several I did look at, including Autumn Classic, I noticed that many skaters were hit with -GOE and q/> calls on multiple jumps in both programs. I’m not saying Karen hasn’t struggled this season, but if you’re going to analyze how...

    U.S. Men 2021-22 season news & updates

How much flexibility he has will depend on what undergrad college he’s attending. Most non traditional/ transfer students (eg, NYCB dancers transitioning out of ballet) attend General Studies, not Columbia College. It’s strict academically but more flexible as to schedule/ living arrangements.
