I understand that the most likely scenario is Ilia, Jason and whoever finishes third at Nats. It probably won't happen, but what if Jason doesn't compete or finishes off the podium? He could appeal and be named to the team anyway, but that would be one way 2 others could potentially go. Based on...
Thanks, it is complicated! We will see how Max does, but I agree with some of you that the judging at IceChallenge seemed more lenient than at the other events.
Interesting idea. I like his new programs, but it isn't helping him if he flubs one or both at every competition. I doubt that he would do L'enfer for a third time, but the 2023 long was well received and not seen that much. Everyone else is making changes, so he should try to maximize his chances.
It's interesting to see where everyone stands right now. Out of curiosity, what would be take to be considered for the team event? Would it mean passing Jason going forward (unlikely) or scoring above 250? Andrew and Tomoki have both come pretty close, so it's always possible.
That makes sense, it wouldn't be fair to allow some skaters to pick their assignments and not others. Your ideas about Gogolev maybe having visa problems or being injured are more plausible.
Would Gogolev have had the option of turning it down and then maybe getting Lucas's Finlandia spot instead? That would give him more time to train and it wouldn't be back to back with Skate Canada.
Even Jason's lower scores this season compared to his PB are still the highest of the men other than Ilia. I can't see him not being named as long as he is healthy when the team is picked. Many of us are rooting for Max, but he does seem to be very much a long shot at least right now.
I agree about Hiwatashi, he may be Torgashev's main competition for that third spot based on the scores so far. He would still have a ways to go since he didn't medal at Nationals but we'll see how the GP events play out.
It's a shame about Camden's injury, but maybe he can recover and go to Nationals. I didn't think he had much of a chance to make the Olympic team either since he hasn't competed this season.
Same here, I thought it was announced in the magazine but not "official" until the US Championships. I agree about Max, he deserves full credit for having the strength to keep on skating after such a tragic loss.
I searched online and couldn't find any results about Max winning the award (?). It shows Ilia winning for both 2024 and 2025, but it's an AI summary so maybe not accurate. I guess it may not be officially announced until the US Championships.
