I thought it was a very entertaining Euros competition. Congratz to the medalists! :)
Was very happy for Guignard/Fabbri, but also a bit frustrated at their packaging if that makes sense? They clearly have the skating skills to go for gold at Worlds, but for some reason the FDs in particular...
IMO the problem is that the doping is enmeshed in the abuse and it opens up a discusssion about figure skating practices that goes beyond Russia. That's why Tara is in such a difficult position when talking about it. Like, she needed a hip surgery at 18, so would need to unpack a lot about her...
Honestly, Linichuk is to blame for so many trainwreck programs. She also trained champions and obviously taught good technique and came up with really good programs. But boy, when she got it wrong, it was a dumpster fire LOL. Whatever "Latin" program G/P were cursed with in 1996, the first...
Tbh, I just want that poor girl to get away from that environment. She's been failed by so many adults in so many ways by now, it's just incredibly sad. I hope she has a healthy and happy life and can get some counseling. What a trainwreck.
I still remember Worlds in 2003 in the US. The atmosphere was really unpleasant for some of the skaters in the ice dance competition. It really brings down the atmosphere as a whole IMO. Whereas, for example, 2000 in Nice, A/P got their standing Os and there were some jeers for F-P/M (not cool)...
Yeah, I assume the Rus Fed has asked SinKats to tack on Worlds so that they and StepBukin can secure three spots for next year. Would be difficult with Davis/Smolkin, I think. Not impossible, but difficult.
I've watched their FD at the Olys for the first time this season and my impression just was: "Haven't they skated to that already? And better?" The music does nothing for them, the costumes in the individual event were not good. None of it worked.
Yeah, I thought it was a well-skated event, considering. But it was super obvious how much pressure everyone was under. The stress falling away after their skates were over for P/C, S/K and H/D was so obvious. They just all seemed relieved that they hadn't made mistakes and spoiled this moment...
Yeah, the whole situation is just desperately sad tbh. It's like with the Karolyis, way too many people are way too eager to look away from a problem that seems to have systematic child abuse at its core. Because it produces results. The best thing would be to get all these athletes away from...
Congratulations on their silver here! :) No one would have believed that they'd forge such a successful career for themselves against all odds eight years ago.To skate like that here, in four programs, despite his massive injury is truly, truly impressive.
They delivered the best performances...
I don't think this is at all being handled well. But to some degree I understand the conundrum the authorities are in. This is not a classic doping case. If proved, this is child abuse via doping and everyone knows it. They're probably all waffling around how to hand out punishment while trying...
So, we've talked about Zhulin's old-fashioned notions and how that influenced the development of S/K. But for all that he isn't reinventing the wheel, I feel that he always looks for something that will look as good as possible on them. They skated that RD really great yesterday and IMO it was...
