The first time I saw them skate was 1990. They did a team competition in the UK which for the life of me I cannot remember teh name of - Skate Electric Challenge or something like that. Yamaguchi & Galindo also skated there. Anyway, I was mesmerised by their knee action and beautiful flow and...
It was actually Karen Courtland Kelly who is the Chef de Mission for World Figure Sport. TSL's coverage of the World Figure & Fancy Skating Championships in Lake Placid was wonderful and the publicity Dave is bringing to figures and their importance is really valuable to skating history IMO.

She had an incredible record as a coach from the 60's to the early 90's starting with her daughter Gaby Seyfert, Jan Hoffmann, Sonja Morgenstern...
The ethos of World Figure Sport is based on the book Figure and Fancy Skating by George E. Meagher who won a "world figure and fancy skating championships" in the late 1800's in North America. Their research has allowed them to crack the codes of figures long since lost to history. The fancy...
Killer beam from Simone today, very reminiscent of 2019 worlds where she just nailed it as well. Floor was close and Andrade had a chance after Simone's OOB but not getting the Mustafina round and an iffy landing herself saw to that. I think Simone will upgrade for sure - if the twisties don't...
Am I right in thinking that if Laurent had not been on the podium, and therefore the .5 neutral deduction would not have been taken, that Simone would have won? I know it's the code etc but to win a vault title with a fall wouldn't feel right at all.
I did a full on clutch pearls gasp at Simone's floor trip and then just laughed at the face she pulled and her little girl march to the corner to wait for the music! You have to love her absolute honesty in the moment. Anyway congrats to Simone on her 6th AA gold and 21st (!!!!!!!!!)...
Fred Richard is fabulous! Looking forward to what he could do next year. Jarman's vault was THE exercise of the competition IMO. His face was a picture! Another year and some more consistency could see him do big things in Paris.
Those last few routines - Andrade's Cheng, DJDS absolutely KILLING beam and then Gadirova and Biles back to back on floor was absolutely the perfect end to a really rocky team final. But that was so exciting to watch!
Just catching up as the timezone meant it started at 1am over here. That was some comeback from Biles!! I listened to the interviews she gave after the meet and she sounds so much more evolved now and in a much better place mentally, just taking all this one day at a time.
Randomly came across a live feed for US Classic podium training- Simone has definitely been training for a while, she didn't look rusty at all, but different skill selections and easing off the twisting. Bars dismount with a full in, beam she now starts with a switch leap-switch half-back pike...
Diane? Yes she coaches at Streatham still and, along with her daughters, coaches Ashlie Slatter & Atl Ongay-Perez who just competed at the World Junior Championships and were second in British Juniors behind Bekker & Hernandez.
The sad news has been confirmed by a number of sources now, and on Facebook, although nothing seems to have been published as yet. Bernard was one of the true legends of British Ice Skating. With Diane Towler he won four consecutive European and World Titles, as well as the demonstration ice...
