Is Isabeau slow? I've never seen her live, but I didn't get that impression from the way people talk about her. Or was he saying she was slower than usual on Tuesday?

When I’ve seen her live, she’s not slow relative to many of her competitors. To my ears, though, she skates on the ice, not IN it. I rarely heard a blade growl from her.

Puzzled how Belgian Nina had higher TES than Julia Sauter.

Base value. Julia has no 3F and repeats loop and toe (or is it loop and salchow?). Nina has all the triples and repeats lutz and loop. Nina's spins are better, too.

There should be a competition for all the skaters who have used Dune this year -- a skate off with all the disciplines competing against each other. Call it the Smart/Dieck cup.

I applaud the skaters for not getting wrapped up in leader's chair mentality. I feel like this crop of skaters (maybe ice dancers aside ) is more about being supportive than combative and it feels like the ISU is trying to create drama and rivalries that honestly skating doesn't necessarily need. The friendships amongst the American and Japanese skaters can be just as compelling as rivalries.

Absolutely. I thought one of the cutest moments was Yuma and Shun ducking under a camera to get to Mikhail to hug him when they realised he had at least a bronze medal And another was all the pairs medalists going round to hug each other.

Petrokina's "Dune" just makes me miss Higuchi's voidy free last year. Good start, but second half the jumps were much tighter. Overall very labored looking.

Wow Petrokina. That is an amazingly choreographed program. So many nuances from the music. These women are really bringing it.

Petronila has some good moves - I live the spiralish blade-grab that she pulls across her body it looks evil-hard. Her jumps have height but she seems somehow heavy doing them (I think we see a lot of effort on the takeoff and the landing and that’s why). She’s got good hands and body language, tho her footwork could look less like she is leaning over in half of it. Nice skate overall, glad she is happy.
