Well, he's landing stuff, but this Firebird is still lacking much fire or bird in any of the choreography. Sarah Everhardt had more fire in her Firebird than Shun does.

I'm a Sato fan but this program is also very front-loaded. Given the negative GOE on his last jump, I assume it's because he can't do the jumps that late in the program.

Almost clean but skates rather small and slowly without the trademark Japanese glide or ice coverage. Spins need work. I actually prefer Gogolev but suspect the judges will give it to Sato.

Big performance, and a big technical score for Sato, but still a couple issues on the non-jump elements.

SP: 88.70 = 9th Place
FS: 186.20 = 2nd Place
Total: 274.90 = 1st Place

Shun’s choreo/expression in the footwork sequence was very subtle, would have loved to have seen it a bit bigger. But other than the one jump, his skate was really gorgeous!
