2026 Canadian Championships - Senior Rhythm Dance and Free Dance

That was very nice. It didn’t look demonstrably different than at the GPF though (except for the laying down). I expect more of the same placements for them at the Olympics. And I feel very badly for them to have made it the whole cycle as medalists to the dumped at the last moment.

Oh ye of little faith…

I believe Skate Canada will not be shut out of an Olympic Figure Skating Medal in Milano.

Au contraire mon ami! That final lift is a must for she is the starry starry night star-fishing her way above his head !
Please tell me this is a tongue-in-cheek fan-splaining explanation for that lift and not from them! 🤣

Does anyone know what time they present the Olympic team with their jackets (or whatever)? I might have another 30 minutes in me but that's it.

The announcement is at 7:00 EST on the Skate Canada website but I don’t know if that includes giving their team jackets.

If I hear Kaitlin say I loooove . . . . . one more time I think I'll throw up

"Honestly Ted, this doesn't happen to me very often... I don't have many words"

 yes Kaitlyn we know
I'm afraid for me Kaitlyn = vacuous. That, in itself isn't enough to turn me off, because I can usually just tune out commentary, but combined with her cadence and her habit of presenting her comments in a question/answer format, (e.g. Are they the best technicians? No. Do I enjoy them anyway? Yes.), it became too much for me so I also tuned into the french-language version and I'm sure I got much more out of it.

I don't think the live stream of the announcement is supposed to be until 7pm ET, so more than 2 hours from now.

Can you even have a national ice dance competition without Paul Poirier? I guess we’ll find out next year.

I imagine he would be right up there with Lloyd Eisler for the most times competing at Nationals. Although IIRC Lloyd made it there at least once as a singles skater as well.

Didn't Paul go once or twice in singles too? He was still doing double duty in his first senior season with Vanessa Crone. Although I guess that wouldn't count as another time competing if he was doing both events in the same year.

Well - I loved that! Bravo to all the teams! Piper and Paul reminded me of why I fell in love with ice dance and then fell in love with them. I am game for trying new things and stepping outside your comfort zone but I am so glad they returned to this program and also to the hair/facial hair, costuming of old. I love that Paul went back to the young Paul look with his lovely curls. I haven't read much about the idea for the revamped program but it seems to be more less about Vincent, the tortured soul, and more about his love for art and wonderful expression and why he is still loved today.

I love Marjorie and Zach and thought they were breathtaking. Wish I could have been there live.

Lajoie/Lagha are listed among the Dance Olympians, but they don't mention them in the text of the release as returning Olympians, while they mention every other competitor by name as either making an Olympic debut or as a repeat Olympian.

G/P get two paragraphs, one in which they throw shade at Vanessa Crone by called her a "previous partner", and LesGacs get a mention of having competed for France.

I just got back from my weekly shop at Safeway, and in the store there were posters and cutout figures of Piper and Paul, IDing them as "Team Canada, Ice Dance".

I'm guessing these were prepared well in advance and have been on display for a while. I know there was a 0.00001% chance they wouldn't be on Team Canada, but whew, good thing that they didn't fall all over the place or stop their program and argue with each other or something

(And I almost didn't recognize them in the displays because they're wearing low-key red outfits with almost no bling....)

Lloyd Eisler went to Canadians at least once as a single and as a pair skater the same year. He also did fours when he was doing pairs with Kathy Matousek.

I think Lloyd said in one of the books he did with Isabelle that he competed at 18 Canadian championships.

I miss fours. It was fantastic to watch.

Throwing shade? They were just clarifying that it will be his 4th olympics and Piper's third. Not sure what 'shade' is being thrown at Vanessa?
