Lombardia Trophy - Women's SP & FS

I mean less about the layout and composition and more about her interpretation of the music. Just not the crispness, sass, attitude, flirtatiousness, drama everything that the music needed. If only Nicole Bobek could skate to pop music with lyrics back in her day.
Nicole would have been amazing with lyrics!!! Yea for Lady Gaga Alysa needs to really go for it or it will look a bit half-assed. Needs at least Ashley Wagner level commitment.

You guys do realize that Alysa has had boot problems and that Ilia's dad is even helping her now. At Champs Camp she couldn't even do the jumps at the competition simulation because this has been a problem for awhile and she even said not to expect to much here at Lombardia because she's skating in one old and one new boot. Alysa is not known for making excuses unlike some other skaters. Heck she tripped on the way to her opening pose yesterday because of her boots being to tight. All things considered she skated pretty well here.

Just bought the subscription so I can go back to rewarch yesterday's.
Not impressed with Sarah. Alysa's short looks like last year's wanna be

Yes but Disease is in there and the Dead Dance i think, I would have to watch it again. The program is on Youtube already.

Holy crap I like that more than I thought I would. She looks gorgeous.

I was loving the first part up until two minutes and 20 seconds when disease changes the whole mood and energy of the program, yuck get rid of that song.

Actually bad Romance really works but she really needs to invoke Lewis Gibson energy here or the energy she had at the free skate from worlds in Boston but I have no doubt she will do that later in the season.

There’s plenty of choreography here. Although the ending is not impactful at all. Change it. Can I step in with Massimo 🙏 please

These are cliches! It’s amazing how fast the world champion becomes captive to the cliches of sports when it comes to ending attempting very risky technical upgrades! Even with her usual Normal 2025 4CC problems she was very close to winning because other skaters attempting upgrades got <<‘s

I’m not really too worried about where Alysa is jump wise right now. She did quite well give the boot issues and it being September.

And I don’t mind the idea of a Lady Gaga program for Alysa. I think the end with Bad Romance will work later in the season when she can give it more energy. But oof, the beginning 2/3rds are not it. Poor song choice and little choreography. Id go back to the drawing board on the beginning right now if they want to keep this program.

But even though I think eventually the Bad Romance part will work, I’d also say I have some questions about whether she is capable of doing the Gaga-esq choreo that has been given to her. It’s not sharp, she’s not pushing any of it far enough to read as intentional kind of staccato movement. I thought the same about the disco movements near the end of last season’s free that I never thought she pushed far enough to have their full effect.

This also requires a really extroverted performer to sell it, and at least right now this reads as someone painfully shy being forced to try to do something really over the top. This choreo would have prefect for Ashley Wagner, who say what we will about skating skills, could give face and hit choreographic movements well.

I have found that we have to accept that in the skaters… over the years the skaters that don’t express north of the shoulders don’t tend to learn to change that, you’re either born with it or you’re not.
I like her program and her dress. And I agree that it is something you are born with. So a choreographer needs to help bring it out. I think Kevin should choreograph a program for her.

Angela Nikodinov was not born with it. At all. I mean The Mummy to Just For You and Sleeping Beauty in the span of 7 months. She's surely an outlier in the world of skating, but things can be done. She first and foremost needs a choreographer that reads the room and tries to bring something, anything out.

That said, the PCS is really still way too high given that she gives.. nothing.

Liu's program is messy at this point and also doesn't work for me, and this comes from a 'shelled out front row secondary market seats to Gaga concert' person. I don't doubt she can bring more life to it, but I was expecting much more.

Catching up now via YouTube videos. If that music inspires Alysa, she sure doesn't act like it (and yes, I'm allowing for rhe boot problems and the season debut). It's making me miss Donna Summer.

I just watched Sarah’s free skate. It wasn’t that bad at all, great costume.

I think with Sarah … she seems to be looking into a void of space, never, maybe rarely ever looking at a judge or the audience. But maybe that’s what helps her with her consistency. I saw some new and improved growth in her artistry in choreography, so I’m excited for the season to go along.

I watched Alysa's a second time, Gaga is an ultimate diva. At the moment Alysa is only half being a diva but I have no doubt that as the season goes a long she’ll bring full divatude. 🥳

How in the world did the greatest skater of all time and that will ever be get brought into this?

Angela is a whole different story, she had a transformation inside and out. A type of transformation you may only see once in a lifetime IMO.

When Angela did the mummy she was still a “girl” skater or not yet a woman skater as I prefer. I always say I love Mao. I love Carolina. I love Amber today. I love a woman skater and when she transformed she left the teen look behind.

By then Angela knew how to present with her body…. her body became an instrument, and while she may not always a look at the audience, you can tell with her face, she felt the music.

I think there’s hope for Sarah to present.

Also I was thinking I think we all need to step back and realize some of these skaters are like 18, when we were 18 did we have the confidence to fully present and engage an audience? I was shy then. Today I could sell snow to an Eskimo but when I was 18 probably not.

Oh dear, I don't like Sarah's program either. With a character program you've got to commit, even if it's supposed to be a weird character with a flat affect. And she isn't committing. Can we bring back Firebird too? Sorry for being so grumpy, I'm just ... underwhelmed.

100% do not understand why anyone would give this skater at this stage in her development a character piece. She isn’t capable of delivering anything even close to meeting the mark for something like that.

The easiest way to cover up a deficiency like that is give them “easy” music to skate to that carries them and that the audience knows. They were on the right track in this regard last year. I’d just have her skate to warhorses and be done with it for this season. And then make a bigger run at actually working on her expression (and posture) in the future and try in small doses to get something more out of her. But she’s not ready for that now.
